Default Transmitter receiver range issues

Hi all,

I bought a RC car for the kids but the range of the transmitter is about 1-2ft. It only works when you hold right up to the car.

New batteries etc full charge.

The 'ant' wire looks about 3" long. Can I just strip it and put more/longer wire on? Or do I need some sort of booster.

Any help or even thoughts where to start would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Hannah,

The antenna is supposed to be 3" long, that's the right size for the radio frequency the car uses (2.4 GHZ), and adding to it will not help. Your range problem is most likely a defect in the electronics. The one other possibility is some nearby RF source "Swamping" the receiver, take the car to a different location (friend's house, public park, etc) and try it. If the range improves, something (WIFI router, etc) is swamping it. If it doesn't improve, return it to the place of purchase for a refund.....
