Default attack-4 battery power

I have an old AM attack-4 radio that I intend to use on a plane I picked up used at the hobby shop. When I charge the battery, it seems to only hold (according to it's meter) 8.7-8.5 volts.

When I range check the plane, I have gone over 200 feet with the antenna down and not had a bit of problems.

Is this voltage acceptable for flying in a fairly closed field? It will not be flying very far at all. However, I would hate to loose a plane to loss of signal.

Thoughts?

Default RE: attack-4 battery power

lord_logic,

The meter on the transmitter is not necessarily accurate. I have 2 attack 4 radios and with newer batteries charged up, they don't seem to peg the meter (shows about 8.5 on both). I wouldn't rely on the meter unless you know the batteries are good to begin with. You will have to take the battery out of the radio, which means taking it apart to unplug the battery, and cycle the battery to see if it is ok. If it cycles ok (if I remember, the attack 4 came with 500mAh battery) and will hold a charge, then it will be ok to use and with a full charge you can see what it shows on the radio's meter.

George
