Question about the RANGE on a RADIO???
I am looking into buy a radio.
I'm trying to decide between a Futaba Skyport 4 on CH 36
and a
Hitec Focus
I have been unable to find any reliable information as the range of a radio. Can anyone offer any answers or suggestions, possibly a rule of thumb when considering range on a radio? Thanks in advance.

RE: Question about the RANGE on a RADIO???
You needn't worry about range on any of the radios you list. They are all out of sight and if you can't see it you can't control it. The range of all radios except possibly the park flier radios is well beyond what is needed for our purposes

RE: Question about the RANGE on a RADIO???
I have one more to add to my list. A GWS Dream Starter radio. Is the range on that radio ample as well?
Does the Megahertz or Channel of a radio affect it's range? or is it even anything that I need to worry about?
Thanks,
Jeff

RE: Question about the RANGE on a RADIO???
I don't know about the GWS stuff but if it has one of their mini rx's some of them have limited range[1000 ft or so]. Might be a mite small for pracitical flight at a regular field.

RE: Question about the RANGE on a RADIO???
The transmitted power on the radios you mentioned are esentially equal. Range is determined much more by the reciever. Many of the park flyer receivers have very low sensitivity and limited range regardless of what transmitter you are using.
