No.

Frequencies are assigned for "surface use" or "aircraft use" and legally, can't be interchanged.

But if you have a brand of radio that has removable requency modules (the type that are designed to be removed and replaced by the consumer), you could have a set of modules for air use and another for surface use. This does not include simply removing and replacing crystals yourself. Legally this can be done only by licensed techs.

Sorry, those are still classed as "surface" vehicles.

It depends on the transmitter. If you have one that uses crystals, then no, you cannot change it. If your unit uses modules, then yes, just get a module in the channel 61-90 range.

Even hovercrafts which are technically speaking not on the ground are still considered ground craft.

how about a model of a russian [link=http://www.hydrofoils.org/Egal/egal.html]ekranoplan[/link]?

IIRC, some of the russion designs could actually get several hundred feet up, although not sustainable.

looks like some guy already tried it...

I think the main reason is so that while you're running your boat on a 72mhz (air) radio you don't screw me up when i dive bomb your boat with my P51... lol Know what i mean? I would never know that you're there and while you could swim and recover your boat i'd need a scuba suit. Seriously, a plane could fall and hit someone/thing whereas you wouldn't expect lethal damages from a surface craft.

And that's a great reason to go ahead and get a surface radio....there might be sombody flying right over the next hill that you don't see...but your radio will. It's just the right thing to do.
