Default Airtronics Rx & Tx Batteries

I have 3 Vanguard radios and rec. The tx takes a 9.6v 600Mah and the rx takes a 4.8v 600mah.
Can I upgrade the batteries and will the wall charger that comes with the radio charge them? What would be a good battery for them ?
Thanx

I built a 8 cel pack out of 1200 mah nicds that I picked up on sale. I have not used a wall wart for many years. so I may be wrong but at 50mah it would just take longer to charge compared to the 600 pack. In my helicopter I have a 5 cell 2400 mah nicd and I build most of my Rx packs from single cells I pick up on sale. Do a little solidering and you have a pack made from better batterys and at less cost.

I used to build my own pack when i raced cars back in the 80's So that would be no problem. Who sells the loose cells now? Any suggestions on sizes ?

The cahrger that comes with the radio WILL charge them no poblem (provided they are NiCd) just remembre it will take LONGER to do so. The rule is to cahrge the batteries @ 1/10 its rated cahrge for 10-12 hours so the Airtronics charger (I think) puts 75 ma on the Tx side and your battery is 1200 mah then you should charge it 16 hours; othr than that it'll work fine I have done it my TX and RX have 1100 mah batteries

I pick them up from Dymond RC, Hobby People, Tower Hobbies. I have also bought 6,7,8 cell packs and cut them into what I wanted. I just put together a 4 cell 720 mah nimh pack for a 1/2a air plane. I got the 7 cell pack on sale for $9.00 so I got a goor deal.
