Ultra Stick setup with 9C
Hi all,
I am setting up my 9C for my Ultra Stick Lite. I have 4 servos on the wing and have programmed things as per the "Complex Aerobat" instructions on the 9C FAQ posted at www.futabarc.com.
I have a couple problems. The flaps are activated by the left slider switch. If the switch is all the way up, the flaps are up 1.5" from the wing surface. At the mid-point of the switch travel, there is a beep, and the flaps are centered. When the slider is all the way down the flaps are down the reccomended amount. Listening for the beep to know that the flaps are neutral seems a bit imprecise. I would like the flaps to be at neutral with the switch all the way up, and down when it is all the way down, that way operation is a little more intuitive. I can make this happed by limiting the upward travel of the flap in the end-point menu. The problem is that when I link the flaps to the ailerons to achieve full span 'rons, I will have no upward deflection in the flaps. I am already using the "Airbrake" mix for crow.
I could move the flaps to a 2 position switch, but in the up position, but then they would go from one end of thier travel to the other when the switch was oerated wouldn't they? Can I make them stop at the centre somehow?
Also, when I turn on my Ele-Flap mix and pull up elevator, my ailerons drop, not the flaps?!?
Here's a link to Futaba's instructions for your reference.....http://www.futabarc.com/faq/faq-9c-q515.html
Thanks for your help!

RE: Ultra Stick setup with 9C
I have the same plane and radio. I have it set up where I can do crow and flaps, but I am really not happy with the result. One flap is delayed from the other and my crow throw is not as great as it seems it should be, but maybe I am wrong. I have not flown it yet, because a "new" servo went out while testing.
Let me know how you correct the problem and maybe your setup will be better than mine.
Thanks.

All my movements and travels are matched up and meet or exceed the specs in the manual, just can't figure out that flap thing.

RE: Ultra Stick setup with 9C
I will have to check my programming. I know these to be correct for me:
I do not use any Y-harnesses, each servo plugs directly into the receiver. I am using the right side finger "slide" switch for my flaps and they go down but not up (correct). I have my crow programmed to a left side switch (cant remember which) to enable crow. It seems that the flaps do not go down very far on this, but it is technically "working".
I may be able to get more info to you by this weekend if that helps. When I looked on Futaba's website, their tutorial did not help me much, but the futaba radio forum here did. I would ask them how to program the crow. That is how I found out. I may still have the docs from it.
I'll let you know.

Ok, thats how i had my ultrastick set up.
Up on the C switch was ailerons coupled to the elevator.
When you pull switch C down, full crow. Up on the outside ailerons, and full down on the flaps.
Switch H up gives full span ailerons.
Switch H down gives outer ailerons only.
Switch G up gives flaps coupled to the elevator
Switch C and G both up gives full span flapperons
Swith C up gives ailerons coupled to the elevator.
Hope it helps

RE: Ultra Stick setup with 9C
I'm using this same application as well but my question will the above mixing work with a duel elevator as well. Meaning channels 2/8 for elevator.
The plane I have is accentual the same plane, (WM SS 60) I modified it with duel elevator servos.
Thanks
Blackie

RE: Ultra Stick setup with 9C
I used Henry's post in conjunction with the Futaba article to set mine up. I't flying but still not fully dialed in. I don't like having the flaps on a slider as this allows to flaps to go up as well as down unless you limit their upward travel in the end-point menu, then they are not going to be effective as full-span ailerons. Trying to find the centre position on that slider while flying didn't seem like a good plan either so for now I don't have flaps. I'd like flaps on a switch, with elevator compensation, but that will have to be figgered out down the road.
I am interested in more info on the full time mixes, being rudder to elevator and rudder to aileron. Should the elevator go up with rudder application, or down. If you follow the Futaba FAQ, you get up deflection when the rudder goes left and down deflection when it goes right, just a typo I'm sure. Also with the rudder to aileron mix, I assume we want the ailerons rolling the airplane in the opposite direction that the rudder is moving as in yaw right. roll left etc right?

I am opposite on the flaps on the slider, I like to use them as spoilers on landing ( helps mask my poor landing skills). I just listen for the beep and I know there centered.

RE: Ultra Stick setup with 9C
You got to have alot of power on. It really adds alot of drag. My landing method usually goes something like this. From way up high, go into a dive crow on, then about 15 feet up I start rotate over into a landing attitude pull in the crow and drop the flaps set it down and as soon as the wheels touch push the slider all the way up to activate spoilers. That makes it stik for a no bounce landing.

Henry, I have a question concerning your mix settings. Can you please tell me if.
Radio 9C
Mix> off is equil to INH?
Mix> on is equil to OFF?
I got a bit confused when I was following your steps.
Thanks

Blackie,
Mix off = off or on depends on where the switch is physicly when setting up the mix
mix on = off see above
mix inh = inh and nothing eles

RE: Ultra Stick setup with 9C
Barber,
I don't know what page you are on...but
I have that book in front of me, read it , and came to the conclusion that it will not show me how to
program my ustick/9cap in acro mode. It'll make you smarter and improve your programming skills but it doesn't show
you how to program your ustick especially not in acro mode. where you will loose "throttle kill" . [:@]
page 62 "better flaps":
" If you have an Ultra Stick and want both flaps and crow, you'll need a glider setup. The instructions accompanying that kit do a good job of explaining how, so we won't bother".
end.
Henry,
after sending me to this thread, which is the same programming as the other, there are still bugs in your sheet. too much/less movement where it shouldn't be. I think you really have something wrong there in the aux/ gear/ setup.
I did line by line and it didn't work.
Since you also posted the instructions in past tense, i'll guess you
don't fly that plane anymore or it's some time ago you've programmed it?
pat
happy landings.
