Default Hitec servo jitter using 6 volt battery

I recently purchased a 6.0 volt 1650 ma receiver battery. When I plugged it into my receiver after charging, two of my servos started jittering. I switched back to the 4.8 volt battery and it worked fine.

The servos that had problems were HiTec HS-85BB (mini servos).

I'm using the HiTec RCD 3800, seven channel, Dual Conversion, shift selectable receiver.

I also have some of the full size HS-425BB servos on the plane. These seemed to also make funny noises with the 6.0 volt battery, but not nearly as much as the smaller HS-85BB servos which both made noises and jittered a bit.

The servo specs given by HiTec list the torque and speed at both 4.8 and 6.0 volts so it would seem that they should work with this battery.

BTW, I'm not using any type of voltage regulator.

Can anyone give me some guidance or advice on whether or not this is common, how to proceed and if I should just avoid 6.0 volt batteries with these servos.

Thanks,
Keith

KEITHB: TRY USING A VOLTAGE REGULATOR. THIS ONLY ALLOWS 6 VOLTS TO THE REC AND SERVOS. WHEN YOU CHARGE A PACK IT CAN PEAK AS MUCH AS 7.1 VOLTS. THE REGULATOR SHOULD HELP.

Now you will get a relpy soon, JUST SEND THEM IN...............
lame excuses...

AND this is not bashing... this is fact.

Post the question in the manufacturers forum. Chuck Mayberry will give you a more accurate answer than some folks will give you here . Some folks have an axe to grind

No it IS NOT common for Hitech sevos to jitter and "have problems" It IS BASHING to jump in and say it every time Hitech is mentioned.

The BASHING from one person though IS QUITE common

Well said LF and needless to say that individual has become quite a bore.

Doesn't seem to be deleted like some others though. If F is bashed delete If H is bashed leave alone. Am I not seeing things here correctly??

Thanks for the suggestion Lady Flyer. I'll post in the manufactures forum.

Default 6V Batteries

Keith,

I have a couple planes with 6V Nimh batteries in them, both with Hitec servos. Mostly 225s, but I do have a 85 on the throttle for both planes.

I have not noticed the jittering noises you are describing.

Daven,

How many servos do you have in those planes? Maybe I have too few servos for the 6.0 battery (that is putting out 7.x volt at its peak).

My plane has 4 HS-425BBs and 2 HS-85BBs.

Thanks,
Keith

In both of the planes I have 6v batteries I only have 4 servos. 3 - 225s and 1 - 85.

Both are Q500 racing planes.

Daven,

How do you charge your batteries? Have you ever checked the volatage after a full charge?

You've never noticed any strange sounds when first switching on after a full charge?

Mike Mayberry suggests that I leave the battery on for a few minutes and see if it stops the jittering.

Thanks,
Keith

I charge my Nimh batteries with my Cirrius (peak electronics) Pro charger. I was told that this charger is perfect for the smaller Nimh Batteries.

I have never checked the charge of any of my batteries (unless I have an unexplained crash). I usually cycle my batteries twice a year, and toss if they are down 15% or more.

I've only recently started using them, and NO I have not heard any strange noises after I switch on, but I have heard from others that it is not uncommon.

What are you charging your Nimhs with?

Default Hi Tec Good

Hi,
We all have our personal preferences. I choose Hi Tec. Why First The costomer service...Outstanding. Plus I fly with two employes from there. So my point is we all have our bias. Futaba, J/R, Hitec ..all good....pick one and enjoy your choice. No need to bash

Default Hitec servo jitter using 6 volt battery

daven,

I actually charged and discharged a couple of times before using it, but after the last discharge I charged with a peak charger (Dymond Turbo) set in NiMH mode, then left it on for another day in trickle mode, so I'm sure I had a really full battery.

Default Hitec servo jitter using 6 volt battery

I had the same thing happen. I use to charge my first 6v battery with the standard wall charger. Never had a problem. Broke down and bought a accu-cycle plus. Had to much invested in planes to loss one from not properly taking care of my batteries. Guess what? After the first cycling and sitting all night on the trickle setting. I pluged in the battery and my servoes were jittering all over the place. I put in a 6v regulator and l have not had a problem since. If the batteries have a bit of time on them and the charge is down they do not jitter. I think the regulator was the ticket. Maybe this is not a problem with all servoes. But it must be somewhat common. Why else would there be 6v regulators.

Cheers

Default It's common here!

It's common around here for a fresh 6.0V packs with slight overcharge on 30%-40% planes to cause servo jitter for a small period no matter what the servos. I don't seem to be affected though and use a Sirrius Pro + charger. Don't know if that's the reason, just a fact.

Default Servo jitter is noise

Jittery servos is almost always a result of injected noise. Higher servo voltage exacerbates the problem.
Using twisted wire for servo leads has always solved the problem for me. CEL 1261 is a part # for twisted servo wire from Horizon Hobby.

I had this same problem with HS-225's on the stabs of an EDF. They were on a long extension with a Y-harness. I got no jitters when BEC was set to 4.8v, but on 6.0v the stab servos would jitter. I even tried a JR Matchbox to no avail. I could have flown it on 4.8v, but I wanted the extra torque on those stabs because its a high performance EDF. I installed a Revolectrix Digital Servo Buffer http://www.store.revolectrix.com/Pro...d-Servo-Buffer, and problem solved!!!!! These are available at AMain Hobbies as well.

There is nothing wrong with your servos. They are just anxious to get to work.
