Default Range check

What is the proper method and distance for a range check? I check my system with the antenna down and at a distance of at least a hundred feet. Do you face the plane or turn the transmitter away from the plane. I can get much further than 100 ft facing the plane.

Their are several ways to do it depending on your equipment type. The easiest is JR's procedure for PCM which also works for Futaba PCM. http://www.horizonhobby.com/articles/1079.asp
