I'd probably send it in, but you might search through Futaba's website, I seem to recall something about Rx antennae's in thier site. There has been so many threads on this topic over the years.. Futaba.com is the site, you'll have to search it pretty good, as there are a few areas that have the FAQ, and alot of other tidbits.
It really should be sent in for replacement though, I bet it wouldn't cost over $20, postage included, if that much.
You gotta figure your planes are worth a heck of alot more then that.

There's a guy in Sacremento.....
You may have heard of George Stiener. I'm not sure if he' still doing repairs or not. Very nice guy too. I haven't dealt with him in years, however you can probably find his e-mail in RCM, as he is an associate editor, and writes all radio/electronic reviews.
BTW, the length for the antennae is 39"(1 meter). You seem to have this well in hand, Good luck.

It would be best to have the antenna replaced instead of having multiple repairs jobs. If you have circuit board soldering experience this is easy. If not send it to someone that can. It is very easy to mess up the pads on a circuit board. Radio South is an excellent source.

I have tried three different ones, alpine, deans, and one other one I cant think of but there are popular too, they work great, can hide them under the canopy and give as good a range as you need.
Its all I run in heli's, and my combat plane. Some say the deans if kinda fragile, mine works but who knows. That is what I would do.

George Steiner still offers his service for repair work... He is located in Sacramento, CA and is listed in the phone book.
I have used many Deans type whip antennas over the years and have always had good service with these antennas. There is a very small range consideration, however it has never been a problem for me.

Michael, do you use the Deans in all of your large scale aircrafts?
I have used a small whip also, but the company no longer makes them and I'm curious about the Deans.
How are the Fiber Optic extensions working out?
Roger

Receiver antenna repair
fitenfyr, you may want to take a look at this URL:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1&I=LXH356&P=7
They have the Futaba FM replacement antenna for $1.59 along with instructions for proper replacement of same, to quote: "All that needs to be done to install this wire is to solder it to the receiver (one needs to cut off what is left of the old antenna except for about an inch)."
Very low tech repair IMSHO.

Repairs
Hey guys, don't make it sound like some "black magic". As long as the joint is good and the length is the same, those signals will make it through. After all, you should know what the original ground range was and you WILL check it again with the new antenna installed.

whip it good
Hey Jason,
I have been using the Revolution loaded whip on my planes and helis. About 12.00 from Horizon. Instructions say cut old antenna 4" from the case any way. Range check of course.

Whip antenna
Smalley Antennas makes a nice whip antenna. They are listed in Model Airplane News in the advertisers section. I use them on my boats and have done some range checks against the telescoping ant. Work great. Come in colors, too.
