Royal Evo is in shops in Denmark
The Royal Evo 9 from Multiplex is in the shops in Denmark.
I just got a mail from www.hobby-shoppen.dk confirming this.

Gary Retterbush has actually seen it for real in his local shop in Germany today. Lucky chap, it is due in UK shops next week. We don't expect the 12 channel in Europe until next year either.

Hi,
Indeed, the first German EVO owner is very enthousiastic about his new radio, see here for those who understand :
http://www.rclineforum.de/cgi-bin/Ya...play&num=22749
In Germany : Evo (9 ou 12??) + mini IPD for 545 Euro, without channel check. Probably at 480 Euro via internet-shopping.

I followed that link, oh how I wish I could read German. So I got Altavista to translate the whole page. So much for computers! It comes out like something from Monty Python, it is howlingly funny. These are some of the computer translated comments from the new Royal Evo owner:
"At first sight no nose were noticeable to me. "
"The rumor, which would be antenna somewhat wacklig failed, has itself with me not proven to be true. "
There are also several comments about the plant in the back of the case. Multiplex must have gone all green and tree-hugging!

Guys, did you follow up on that thread ?
Because, yesterday the guy, who so enthusiastically posted about his new evo, got a rude awakening :
After he got the chrystals and installed them, he found out that the thing does not work!!!!!!
He checked it out with a friend of his, who is a HAM radio operator, and there is no HF being emitted.
I'm sure MPX will replace the thing no questions asked, but talk about bad luck !

Re first impressions
For all who are interested, I translated the post in the RCline forum mentioned by Olivier, here it goes :
Michael
It’s finally here !
After ½ a year of waiting, the first RE’s arrived at my LHS.
I just came back from him with my unit.
Price was 545 euros, including mini-9-IPD rcvr, not really a good price.
Supposedly Hoellein sells it online for around 480.- euros, but I told myself : "support your local hobby shop !"
First impressions :
The quality of the housing is good, although not as good as Graupner MC-24 or Robbe/Futaba FC-28.
On of the switches and one of the sliders seem a bit rough, but otherwise OK.
I still have to get used to the Menues, since until now, I have been using a FC-16
The Menu-architecture is very well thought out and simple, you find all functions at the first try , and so far, I have found no bugs.
Hopefully, this will remain so, if not, there’s always the possibility of upgrading the software via Internet.
The already mentioned easy programming architecture probably is also due to the fact, that for programming, youtake basic built in programs, such as Delta, Akro, Sailplane, or Heli, and the modify these to your needs.
I just ask myself how this would work out in the case of experimental models, VTOL, and such.
In these cases, there would be not such a definitive separation between fixed and rotay wing, so it remains to be seen how free the programming in these cases would be.
Another nice feature is the battery management, which will tell you the remainig operating time, for example.
The rumor, that the antenna would be a bit loose, has not been confirmed, although it is a bit tight for ext./collapse.
Well, these are my first impressions, I’m still waiting for a pair of chrystals and the channel check module.
I’ll report back next week, how the flying goes.

More precisely his father who is a ham operator checked it but he was not listening on the frequency (35MHz most probably, which is too high for a standard ham shortwave rig) but on the half of the freq since MPX crystals are cut that way and their freq is doubled and he could not hear it on his rig. That is very dubious way to check operation, since it may be that 17.5MHz signal is probably very weak and HF module is probably well shielded.
He did mention that module was pulling enough current so LCD was showing HF activity, and module was getting warm which is usually enough to assume HF activity.
Later he found out that RX crystal was bad and TX worked fine from the beginning.
