Frequency Conversion Not Crystal Swap
I will be in Europe for an extended period of time. Can I get a radio that can be set up on the local frequencies (35 mHz) and then convert it to 72 mHz when I get back to the US? If so, what radios can this be done with? I'm an entry level user so I don't want to shell out a grand for a radio. If that's the requirement I'll just get an inexpensive 4 channel to use whil I'm over here.

RE: Frequency Conversion Not Crystal Swap
A transmitter that uses frequency modules will do what you want if 35 mhz and 72 mhz modules exist for it. Futaba 9C, Hitec Optic 6, Hitec Eclipse 7, and JR 8103 are module based and typically sell for under $500 with receiver and servos.
What I don’t know is whether 35 mhz modules exist for any of these units. The web sites I can find are all US based and provide no info about what’s available elsewhere.
No matter what you go with you’ll have to replace the receivers when you go from one place to the other. Receivers are band specific and from what I’ve read it wouldn’t be cost effective to convert them.
