Default Airtronics, JR, Futaba?

Im wanting to upgrade my radio equipment. I currently have an Airtronics VG6000. Its a great radio, but it only has 4 model memory. I like the ease of programming but id like to get one with more model memory and a little more bells and whistles. The problem im having is that this radio uses dual conversion receivers. I have 4 receivers in my planes. If i buy say like an airtronics RD8000 will the dual conversion Hitec electron 6 receivers work with it? I know there is a differnce between the FM / PPM / PCM stuff. What equipment will work together? I dont want to have to replace all the receivers and crystals if ya know what i mean.

All of my equipment is airtronics

Should i buy a JR radio?

Yes. I have a mix dual conversion and single conversion receivers. The technology in the receiver is seperate from the transmitter. As long as the Tx and Rx are the same modulation (PPM or PCM), frequency, and shift (pos/neg) then they will work together.

FM and PPM are the generally the same term and are used interchangably now that AM is no longer common. PCM just is a different modulation of the FM signal and has some extra capabilities, e.g. fail safe. Most (all?) computer radios allow you to choose between PPM and PCM modulation. This allows you to choose the best modulation for a particular installation.

You can buy your new Tx on the same channel as you old Tx.

I think not -- but then I'm a Futaba bigot and would never buy a JR Tx! You can retain your investment in ypur receivers with either a newer Airtronics or a JR as they both use positive shift.

Any receivers you have, that work with your Airtronics VG6000, will work with any Airtronics or JR radio, on the same channel. Airtronics and JR ar positive shift on PPM, and Furaba and Hitec transmitters are negative shift. Some Hitecs can be changed to positive shift, as well as some Airtronics can be changed to negative shift. If you want use PCM, no brands interchange.
