Any JR Guru's Out There?
I came by a used JR 631, and it's settings make no sense--the sticks are mode 2 (throttle-type with ratchet on left, spring return to center on right), but the software is mode 1 (left controls elevator, right is throttle). The trim adjusts also say elevator on left, throttle on right. I guess all I need to do is reverse the servos, and it will work ok, but this bugs me. Also, the throttle kill won't work, except on the elevator (where it won't do much good). Will I really miss that? Any idea how to fix this mess????????

You should probably just send it in to Horizon for repair, usually $15 to $50 at worst case.
These radios' computers are default in Mode 1 because most of the world is Mode 1. There are jumpers somewhere in the radio of American 631's to tell it's computer to be Mode 2.
At some point in the radio's life, the radio may have been connected to a "wrong polarity" charger, or it may have had a battery lead issue. This event locked up it's computer and may have done other damage.
Unfortunately, damage may have occured to the main board or the RF board that only Horizon can fix right. The 3V lithium may have drained due to the lockup, etc. The radio's tuning and output may have been thrown out of whack by damage to the RF board. This will result in eventual failure, weak output, and crashes.
I would strongly reccomend sending it in to Horizon to get fixed and looked over.

Thanks for the very good answer! You confirmed my suspicions--the radio is probably really screwed up. I think I can get a brand new one for about $75, so I'm not sure this thing would even be worth fixing! Charge to experience.....

Send it in
My suggestion is to send it in to Horizon.....Reason they may not charge you very much at all to repair it.....In fact they will save you some money.
The Techs at Horizon have done a great job with everything I have sent or had someone send in for repair....They really are first rate and can tell what really happened or didn't happen tot he TX......$75 is very reasonable for a new TX but on the other hand they probably can make the one you have good as new..........
Just tell them you want an estimate before repair work is done.....I bet you will be surprised!

are the servos plugged in the right spots?
Make sure you have the servos plugged into the "right" spots to match a JR transmitter: Throttle, Aileron, Elevator, Rudder in order from channel 1 thru 4.
Futaba and others use a different order.
