Default Spektrum TX blown fuses

Even though the manual says the TX can be fast charged, every time I try to charge mine at 500mah using my Sirius charger the fuse in the transmitter blows.

Anyone else had this problem?

check your hook-up. you may be trying to charge your battery using the wrong polarity. JR's polarity is opposite of the other brands of radios.

Got one of those from Sirius. Says Futaba on one end and JR on the other. The JR end goes into the Spektrum transmitter. Still blows fuses when quick charged but slow charges fine on the supplied wall wart charger.

Do You know(or can You determine) the amperage rating of the fuse? You say "it Still blows fuses",So I assume You have replaced the fuse at least once. What size fuse did You replace it with.IF it is blowing a 1.5 or 2.5 AMP fuse, while charging at "500 mah" something is clearly going wrong. If however it is a 1/2 amp fuse,it would make sense.

I've been using the identical value that came with the radio.

sounds like you are using the jr charging polarity on your spread spectrom tx. jr=neg, ss is likley pos. Reversed polarity will blow fuses which I expect is why they are put in there in the first place.

There is a notice in manual about reverse polarity for

Mine was blowing fuses. Turned out that the plug on the end of the lead had worn insulation and when I plugged it in with the TX turned on it would pop the fuse.

Try replacing the charge lead.

Hi,
If you have a voltmeter, you can check the polarlity on both the charger and the TX charge port. This will tell you if you are reversed or not. If you aren't reversed, it is either too low an amperage fuse or something is with the charge circuit. Since it charges normally, the fuse may be under rared for the fast charge.

Dustflyer , I appreciate that You are using the indentical value as the original fuse,And I certainly commend You for it.But,I don't have a Spektrum transmitter myself. If You want me to try to figure out what's going wrong,You'll have to tell me exactly what fize fuse it is that it's blowing.
As sol451 pointed out,The manual states that the charge plug polarity is reversed. The center pin is "Negative",just like JR transmitters.

The FAQ on the Spektrum site states that"The maximum recommended charge rate is 1200mAh. Be sure to use a good quality charger that is designed to charge Nicads. ". It also states that there is no diode in the transmitter,So the fuse is required to protect the system
So,The fuse should handle charging at .5 amp.The problem must be with the polarity,a short in the charge lead or the charger.

Maybe my adapter is mislabeled. I'll have to check with Sirius.

Noticed your post about charging problems with your DX7. I am also having some problems but mine seem to be related strictly with the reverse polarity issue. I have b lown the fuse and cannot tell what the amp value is. It looks like it could be either .3 amp or 3 amp - can't tell for sure. Do you know what the amp value is supposed to be.

Thanks for your help.

Should be a 3 amp fuse. I reversed the wires on the charging jack inside the trans. Not at all hard to get at once you take the cover off. Now I don'tworry about which charger goes to which trans. I have been using a Hobbico fast field charger on it for the past yr. with no problems.

does reverse polarity blow fuses?

Surely only a current over the rated value would blow it...
