Defective Futaba sold by Tower Hobbies
Guys, I have a problem. I bought a new Futaba transmitter from Tower Hobbies and found it to be defective - one of the knobs do not rotate! However, Tower are not supporting me as they should due to the fact that i leave overseas. Did any one of you faced that situation with Tower? I'm really a good customer spanding many good dollars in their store.... Please advise.

RE: Defective Futaba sold by Tower Hobbies
They are not! I can tell you that my "New" radio is still in it's box during the last four month and left me frastrated.
There is a problem where I'm international customer and shipping it is costy; however, I'm traveling to the USA often, but Tower Hobbies are not really ready to assit.
I have to say that some friends send me Confidential messages where I realized I'm not the first and only person to experiiance that Tower approach.
I bought a new Futaba Radio, and don't think that the solution is to send it for repair. Another solution suggested by Hobbico (connected somehow to Tower Hobbies) is to get replacement part and they expect me to replace that defective knob (while they mention the task is not easy and may not work).
Do you see the picture? I purchased a NEW Futaba radio from Tower Hobbies with the Hobbico technical support!!!...

Sounds like what you want is for Tower to ship you a new replacemnet radio free and let you keep the first one also? If you don't return the original they can't repair or replace it! Are there no radio repair shops in your area or is it you just want to be angry and complain? Most guys with 30 years in the hobby have learned ways to solve most of their own problems.

Some thing fishy..
I have been dealing with Tower since they opened in the 80s. They have always bent over backwards for me.. I find this whole thing strange.. I'm sorry your having a problem and are so far away.. Brian

Weird. I've dealt with Tower for many years off and on, and never, ever, not so much as even once had a problem with them.
BBallin....what's the rest of the story?
Brian...Tower opened in the early 70's.

Seems to me the problem is on your end not at Tower.
Suck it up man, pay the shipping. Where you live isn't their fault. They are going to pay the shipping back.

My friend,
I offered to send the device; however, they are not ready to do so and offered to send the knob with the suggestion to replace it by myself and the remark that I'll may have problems to do that.
That's the issue my friend; after spending thousands of USD over years I bought a NEW radio and wanted to send it back. YHY SHOULD I FACE THAT EXPERIANCE BY BUYING A NEW RADIO???

RE: Defective Futaba sold by Tower Hobbies
bballin,
I simply pulled the knob off of the channel 7 potentiometer on my 9CAP. It revealed a pot shaft, slotted for a standard screw driver. Mine turns fine and has a rachet built in. Yours may just be a little stiff. If you pull off the knob and gently turn the pot with a screw driver, it may break loose. The hard part, about replacing it is unsolding it from the circuit board and soldering the new one in. Futaba 's have narrow circuit traces, which can bridge very easlily during soldering. Great care is required. Of course if you have it worked on, it will void the warranty. Did they tell you that?

RE: Defective Futaba sold by Tower Hobbies
thank you very much for your message.
... and NO they did not tell me that.
Does it really make sense that I'll do all that in a NEW Futaba radio?

RE: Defective Futaba sold by Tower Hobbies
bballin,
I have done quite a bit of business with Tower also. With that being said, I've learned that when I purchase something from or through them, I test or check it as soon as I receive it. The send all murchandise with a return shipping label if there is a problem, and you want to return it. After 30 days, I believe its no longer their issue, its now directed to the manufacturer. I ran into the same situation last year with a servo. I bought 5 Futaba 3010 servos, and 1 of the 5 were bad. Problem was, it was 5-6 weeks before I installed the servos and found the issue. I received the same treatment you are experiancing, they direct me to Futaba as it was past their return time period. I'm sorry you ran into this problem, but food for thought ...... Greg
