Default My new RD-8000

I GOT IT !!

I'm so excited. Finally, after the long wait, I got my new RD-8000

I can spend $300 on many things, but not too many will give me this amount of yippie! Man, I can remember dumping $1,000-1$1,500 on a new computer and not being anywhere near this pleased with the purchase.

I don't know anything about this radio yet, other than Airtronics propoganda. My previous primary rig was (is?) a Vanguard-6. Quite a step up, eh?!

My twinstar should be ready soon - two OS-30 four strokes and an RD-8000 to fly it!

Looking at that new radio in the box got me excited too. So I just went and ordered one myself.

Jschenck,
I am looking at buying a trans, the RD8000 is one of my options. How does it compare to the futaba 9c, or the jr8103? Just curious as there is no info anywhere on it. I also have a Vanguard 6, so it will buddy box if I get the RD8000. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Wooki3

Default compare

Well - I don't have any direct experience with the 9c or the JR. I did consider these along with the Hitek. The JR was a bit more than I wanted to spend for my hobby. The Futaba was also a bit more expensive and didn't have any features above the RD8000 that I thought I'd use. The Hitek is almost the same price and doesn't have the 8th channel. I believe the JR and Futaba have better aux channels, that is fully proportional using a dial nob instead of flip switches and probably a dual-rate rudder option.
As far as mixing, I'm sure that they all will do anything you want. The one compelling feature of the Hitek is the Spectra module. That would be a great benefit since I already have a number of receivers on various channels.

I ended up with the Airtronics primarily because it was what I wanted. Everyone who has bought an RD6000 seems to like it and I've had good experience with previous Airtronics.

I just ordered one from Heliproz yesterday.

They had the heli version with 5 servos for $299 and free shipping.

Sounds like a heck of a price for all the features.

Default That is a good price

I paid $289+tax at the LHS for a four servo version with 600ma battery. Tower lists the same radio I bought for $299.

The Heli radio is the exact same tx - only the flight pack is different. One additional servo and a 1000ma battery pack I believe. Did you get an RD-6000 by chance?

No, it's the RD8000 with the heli flight pack for $299!

They sell the Super 6000 for $274

They don't have the RD8000 listed on the site right now, but it was there yesterday when I called them. I'll have it Friday.

Oh, FYI they had 3 more I think.

Best thing about the RD Super series (6000 and 8000) is you can use any brand receiver, AIR, Futaba, Hitec, JR with it. You can program each model for a different Modulation, regardless of PCM, FM + or - shift, even accomodates 512 and 1024 PCM variance receivers!! I have my whole fleet in mine now, great radio! Easy to program as well. Has a full blown Heli program as well. Will be flying my Rappy 50 with it soon. Rcmainac6

CAUTION!
I saw a notice at HeliProz's site that Airtronics may have a recall of the RD 8000. Something about the dual elevator function.
Contact Airtronics to find out if this is true or not before flying. Maybe they have a quick fix and you won't have to send the TX to their shop. I have not confirmed this notice but thought the new owners of the RD 8000 should be aware in case it was true.

There is a recall on the RD 8000 software for airplanes using dual elevator servos. Their is something which causes this specific function to cause a split elevator condition within specific programing peramiters. Airtronics has been very honerable and quickly reported this to the market instead of waiting to see if it caused a lot of problems. They have fixed all the ones at the factory and will reprogram this function for anyone with a unit already. Hats off to those people at Airtronics. I am running the RD 8000 with regular airplane functions and mixing and also on helicopters with no trouble at all. When the rush is over I'll send mine in for the upgrade for the dual elevator servo thing then.

If anyone wants to purchase a new RD 6000 or RD 8000 the best prices are at this website below. 229. for the RD 6000 Super and 259. for the RD 8000. For the cost to purchase these radios, and the performance they offer, there is not much of a contest with other radio systems at this point. Hope this makes the other guys come down to realistic prices for their stuff. With electronic systems built the way they are today radio systems much over 300. are all just premium and large profits to the other guys.

I have ordered from Heliproz 5 or 6 times, and every time was great. They are very nice and know how to satisfy their customers.

I would not hesitate to order from them again.

The RD8000 my first computer radio, so to me it's really nice.

Default RD 8000

Hi Guys,

Here is a website to buy the RD 8000 for 259. and the RD 6000 Super for 229.

http://www.rcshobbieslaportein.com/

The RD 8000 radio is the best radio system on the market today and it's priced where they all should be priced. Airtronics has hit a home run with this system.

I would probably stick with HeliProz. I don't mind spending a couple of extra dollars to deal with a company that has always been good to me.

No I have not tried any of the other places listed here.
