Easily make fast charge cable for Futaba 12FG
I went to radio shack and got one 6ft Adaptaplug Power Cord, P/N 273-1740. Cut it in half to
get two charging cords.
Solder the red banana plug onto the white striped wire. Solder the black banana plug onto
the other wire.
Use the "C" adaptaplug to fit into the charge plug on the Futaba 12FG. Ensure that the tip
is positive when you install the adaptaplug on the cable. Ensure that the '+' on the
adaptatip is next to the 'TIP' label on the cord end.

RE: Easily make fast charge cable for Futaba 12FG
The 12FG has an 7.2 volt NiMh pack. It has a different charge connector than previous
Futaba radios to prevent you from attaching a 9.6 volt charger to it.
I charged it using my Triton charger, at .2 amps. I read somewhere that the charge jack is
good for only .5 amps, and I figure that charging slower is safer.

The current of the original charger is set at 170ma. Comparing with 0.2 amp, it seems charging time cannot be shortened distinctively.
Besides, I have made a charging jack to discharge the battery at 1 amp. through the charging jack. I haven't charged through the charging jack with any fast charger. I have asked at Futaba Radios Direct support forum what maximum current can be charged through the charging jack but no response.
Cheers

RE: Easily make fast charge cable for Futaba 12FG
I can't seem to find the post about the charge rate on the 12FG charging jack...
I'm mainly interested in the convenience factor of not having to disconnect my
radio battery each time I charge it. Should be more reliable than wearing out
the battery and radio connectors, too.

I put a two cell lithium Ion linked end to end in mine. I just unplug it for the transmitter and charge it with my Astro 109. Lasts a long, long time and doesn't discharge.

Hello CJSHAKER,
How come you can buy the Futaba CR-2000 with the added power DC power supply and a charging cord. So I take it the Hitec charger/dischargers and field chargers can no be used?
Could you post a few pctures of the charging cord you made in the first post and will your creation work with the Hitec field charger and Accu-cycler and Accu-cycler plus??
Also has futaba said this type of after market systom if used will voild your one year warranty??

NedYob:
I'd think most chargers would work with the 12FG, but have no clue about
whether or not that will void your warantee. I've used my Triton on mine,
with no ill effects.
Regarding the cable I made, it'd now be cheaper amd easier to get the Futaba
CD2000 charge cable from Tower Hobbies. Futaba Part# NCC-17, Tower Item#
LXSMF3, $6.99
