Default Crystal Questions

I just recieved a plane form a RCU Member and I only get 5 feet of range then I get nothing at all and this is with the TX antenna up all the way. If it's down I get nothing unless I'm inches away. Anyway I talked to the seller and he said he may have swaped out Hitec Crystals and put them in the JR setup thats in the plane. How can I tell if its a JR / Futaba / Airtronics / Hitec crystal

The crystals I have say

R72.710
73.165
JCLD1G

FT
72.710
JCL01D

Thanks Chris

On my 27.045 AM Hitec crystal, it reads...

TX/AM
27.045
SUNNY

Doesn't sound like a Hitec crystal....although Mac, you may want to read the post changing TX crystals.

Default Xtal?

CMACCLEL

1- Is it a JR RX or after market RX --- What model # is on the RX?
JR RX uses a gray cap rx xtal for single conversion rx and a red cap for dual conv. (rare) most of the time with freq.# sometimes with ch# and freq#
Airtronics usually have a yellow cap with ch#
Hitec usually have a tag on them giving the ch # & freq # if not , a # XX.XXX H under that number letters such as KDS XX
Futaba has a tag also with freq # and ch #

Not familiar with most after market markings

The freq 72.710 = CH 46

Is that what your TX is on?

Is your tx a JR?

Hope this helps, John

The Crystal that was in the tx was glued in and it had a grey cap. The RX is a Hitec555 receiver.

The top set of numbers is my original post came off the RX crystal and the bottom set is from the TX crystal.

Default Crystal Questions

Chris, the HiTec 555 is a dual conversion receiver and it look like the seller may have installed a JR single conversion crystal.

Since the transmitter was glued in, I would leave it alone and aquire a HiTec receiver crystal on the transmitters channel 46 frequency.

For what it's worth - Al

Default Unknown xtal

Hi Chris,

A series of if's.

If you are using a JR TX.
If the Hitec rx is labeled for JR use all you need is a hitec xtal.

If you are using Hitec or Futaba TX.
If it is labeled for Hitec or Futaba use all you will need is a Hitec Xtal.

(Hite & Fut.) and JR are not compatible unless the TX has POS. and NEG. shift capability.

Hope this helps, John

Default ECLIPSE 7

Hi Chris. Check the manual and it will tell you.

The Prizm 7x I have was manufactured before Eclipse so more than likely it does have shift.

I am using JR RX's with my P-7X.

Good luck, John

Default Crystal Questions

The Eclipse DOES support both +ve and -ve shift.
Quoted from the Eclipse FAQ:
Q. What other receivers will my Eclipse work with?
A. Any modern FM receiver will work; all you need to do is make sure you have selected the proper shift in the menu. Hitec and Futaba are negative shift and Airtronics, JR and Multiplex are positive shift.

Yeah, it's funny how sometimes I get several replies from the same person on multiple posts when we're both on at the same time.

Happy flying.
