Default DX6 upgradable to full range?

Hey guys -

Is my first generation DX6 limited to park flyers? I hope I'm not stuck with a radio that I can't upgrade to full range.

It is intended for park flyers. Apparently some have used it in 40 size planes but it is not recommended.

Why? What is full range? Does it have something to do with distance? If so what is the range on 'park flyers' compared to 'full range'?

BillVille: Yes, it is upgradable. Just send the DX6 and a check for about $200.00 and you'll get back a DX6i "full range" radio

Sport: The DX6 park flyer radio is meant for planes that are flown slowly and close to the pilot, maybe 500 feet max.

Right there in the instructions they say that the DX6 is not intended for larger, faster planes because of this.

Just sell the DX6 and buy a DX6i for $179 from your local LHS or Horizon. I sure wouldn't send them my DX6 and a $200 dollar check.....thats just wacky.

Not sure about whether or not Horizon will upgrade if you send it in with the $200 or so mentioned above since Horizon will sell you a new DX6i with an AR6200 full range 6 channel rx for $179.99...

But basically you're stuck with an obsolete radio that is only suitable for park flyers and small electrics.

The DX6 is DSM1 technology where the DX6i and all other Spektrum/JR 2.4 stuff is DSM2 technology.

The DX6 will only operate the AR6000 rx's, the DX6i and all subsequent tx's will operate all of the Spektrum/JR 2.4 rx's as far as I know. I've not confirmed that the DX6i will operate an AR6000 rx, but I think that is the case. The DX7 and X9303 will operate those AR6000rx's.

Sorry guy....[]

The 6i will bind to the AR6000's. It takes a little longer than you would expect, but they will bind. There are other threads here that address that issue. My LHS agreed to take my DX6 in trade against the 6i, but after I waited so long for the 6i to come in stock I decided to keep both.

I had that *feeling* that I should wait and not buy the first generation 2.4 radio when it first came out.

. . . but, nooooooo. I wanted to be free from hits, which is a big problem at my field. . .

So I bought two radios in one year that I can't use - the DX6 and a JR 6102 - with flaps, gear and on off for my FMA failsafe, I need SEVEN channels.

How did I do THAT??? [sm=cry_smile.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Boooooo Hooooooooo Waaaaahhhhh waaaaaaahhhhh

I'll trade them both for a prop or glow plug or something I can use. . .

I see you are in Kansas?

How about I send you the radios, and someday if you are in Los Angeles, we'll meet at the field and you give me the prop?

Hi Guys,
Sorry to break the news to you, but I believe I am correct in saying that the DX6i is also a park flyer. It is a print error that makes you think it is full range.

Sorry to break the news to you Phil, but the reason the Blade 400 with the DX6i (the RTF versions come with a DX6i) is a "Park Flyer" or "Small electic" is because the Blade 400 uses an AR6100E rx, not because of the tx. If used with an AR6200 rx or some other full range rx then the DX6i is a full range tx...

Even though the DX6 is labeled "Park Flyer Radio" there are few documented range issues using the DX6/AR6000 combination. The real issue is diversity because of the lack of a remote Rx as in the 6200, 7000, etc. IMHO, and two years of flying this combo.

If one uses the 6DXi Tx with a AR6000 Rx one would get:

a) full range?

b) better range than with the 6DX Tx?

c) same lousy range as with the 6Dx Tx?

just wondering
