DX-7, how I hate thee, let me count the ways!
I have been having a issues the last few times I have been out with plane (GP 40 size RV-4). My plane has flown a couple dozen times with no problems at all until a few weeks ago I had intermitten control issues, which lead to a minor crash while trying to get my plane down, which broke the wing at the joint. I repair my plane and I put in a spare receiver I have for another plane yet to be built. Take the plane back out a couple weeks later again minor control issues/ plane doing its own thing for a second or two at a time, I get it back down and go home. I upgrade from the stock 4.8 v to a 6 v battery, go out again today, the plane is a control mess, I get it back for about 5 seconds before having no control, the engine cut outs and the plane gracefully noses into the dirt. The engine cutting out is due to the radio reseting to the default settings, I never had gotten around to rebinding the receiver with the throttle a few clicks up as the idle setting. I am now 100% sure the transmitter is at fault here. Thankfully the plane appears that it can be fixed but I am going to call Spektrum tomorrow and tell them shove their crappy radio up thier arse.

Sorry to hear about your problems. If you send your receiver back to Horizon they can upgrade it and add the new "quick connect" feature that prevents the "re-boot" issue that may have caused your crash. I have changed all my systems to a UBEC with a LiPo 1320 pack and upgraded receivers. I haven't had any issues since making those changes. I lost four planes prior to doing this.
Good luck!

The receiver quick boot might have saved the crash but I believe the transmitter is the source is my problems. Thanks for the heads up

Problems like this are sometimes hard to identify. Your least likely point of failure is the the transmitter. Although the transmitter being the problem is possible, 99% of the time it is aircraft equipment related.
I can, however, think of one instance where transmitter failure might be a problem. One of the guys at our field crashed his plane and was so p***** at himself that he slammed his transmitter to the ground. After that impulsive action, I would suspect he has another crash(transmitter related) waiting for him at some point.

pub,
To test your receivers for the upgrade: with the transmitter and receiver on and linked, the lights in the receiver should glow steady. Turn the receiver off for a moment, then back on. If the lights in the receivers blink slowly, it has the upgrades. If they glow steady, it does not have the upgrade.
This is what I have discovered with mine.

[8D]When in doubt send the Transmitter, receiver, switch, servos, battery pack to Horizon and let them check it out...

they should also have a 1.6 label instead of the 1.2

Horizon told me that there is no labeling, or other visual way to indicate if the rx has the "Quick Connect" firmware. The small V1.2 sticker on the side of the 6100 rx's indicates a firmware version that corrected a glitch in the initial releases of those rx's.
None of my 6100's which went in for the Quick Connect update have any additional identification on them when they came back from Horizon.

I am going to send it all back today. With me having the same results on two different receivers, I would find it very hard to believe it is not the transmitter.

Zeeb is correct on the reference to the 6100 receivers that I mentioned. when I purchased them at the LHS, I made sure they had a white oval "v 1.2" sticker on the end of them that indicated a firmware update to correct "elevator viagra" syndrome.
I crack up on the title of the thread because I have watched my MUS die twice (stupid of me to not get that my 6100 was the culprit) and recently a SU-31 foamy profile die once due to some 6100 issue. included before and after pictures with my 6100 laying among the grass clippings filling my plane. the follow up was the repaired MUS (tough as nails and looks a little like a crinkled cigarette)
Only the SU-31 I can attribute to the issue they are currently updating the firmware on to version "v 1.6". Horizon did replace the 6100 receiver that killed my MUS in two incidents without any hassle. I had my four 6100s I sent in for updates back to me within a week of sending in so I missed no flying time which was appreciated.
I did not see that you were referring to updates or identifying versions on other receivers and I am surprised they would not identify the firmware updates on them.
I like the radio and eventually I will trust the entire package (Tx and receivers). It does beat using my FM and dodging the interference Bermuda triangles around my neighborhood. I save in laundry what the DX7 cost me
enjoy the flights

Just tested the radio, and everything works great,I connected 4 servos ,went behind a water heater, which is behind a brick chimney and the rx was 18ft away. And everything worked, turned on&off a couple times. pub
