Default Meter question on older Futaba FG series...

Hello, i have a older Futaba FG series radio, works very good, This radio has the large module in back that plugs in, i read somewhere that if you unplug this module the meter should still work, this does not, my brother has one also same thing... If someone could help that would be great, maybe let me know if yours is the same, thanks.. flyby50...

Easiest sure answer is to call or at least email Tony Stillman @ Radio South.

Numbers are here: http://www.radiosouthrc.com/

The meter is an RF meter, it will not indicate without the module present[)]
Good luck,

The meter is an indication of the battery voltage not the RF output. The resistor it measure a voltage drop accross is inside the module. Since part of the circuit is inside the module it will not give any indication without the module in the transmitter.

Actually it really is an ammeter[)], that is why it will give a different reading depending on whether the antenna is extended or not.

That meter, like a ticking clock in a puppy's bed, did little other than give you a needle to watch.
Not just Futaba's but ALL of them.

That is why post two suggested that the thread starter go to Tony Stillman for a reply.

According to the instruction manual that came with those transmitters:

The "Square level meter indicates the transmitter output power and indirectly shows power supply voltage."

In other words, it's an ammeter that is showing the current flowing through the final output stage of the transmitter, and when the meter starts to go down, the battery pack voltage is going down. That's because voltage is the "push" that moves current. When current declines, it indicates that the voltage is declining.
