Default DP tailwheel springs causing radio interferance...

Has anyone ever had any problems with the Dave Patrick tailwheel spring causing radio interferance?

I am setting up my 27% CA Extra and the springs that hold and move the tailwheel are causing my servos to jump around. It is metal springs attached to the metal wheel bracket so this can be a problem for sure but has anyone else had this problem?

At first I thought it might be my rudder servo so I swapped it out with another one. I had same problem, then after a closer look I unhooked the tail wheel spring from the contorl horn and let them dangle from the tailwheel arm. If I move the springs ever so slightly on the arm it makes the servos go nuts....

I mean we all know metal on metal can cause interferance so why is DP using metal springs on a metal arm for their tailwheel...

Just curious if anyone else has had this problem... I'm off to find a solution for mine.

The antenna is ran down the side of the fuse, inside it, and it ends just past the stab.

Well I fixed it by making small loops with coated pull pull cable. Shame I had to do this but at least there isn't anymore interferance from the metal on metal.

WreckRman2, thanks for the good finding and excellent solution. Although I have not used DP's set up, this info will be useful in any set up.

I've used a DP tailwheel before but have to admit I messed up the springs trying to bend them so I had to use some cheap house springs and some loops like I did in this one. I guess that's why I didn't have problems on my last one...

Oh well... another great product we have to change before we can use it. LOL

I'd send Dave Patrick an email but we all know they'd never reply...

They won't cuz' they have changed the design and patented it under their name and you get no royalties. LOL

Default DP Tailwheel

I have the black version of the DP tailwheel on my Giles 202. I noticed you have the chrome or nickel plated version.

I'm running a standard PPM receiver and have had no glitches. Perhaps the paint has helped.

Went and checked my laser. Just finished and ready to fly. Antenna exits in rear bottom near tail braces. I also have a chrome tail-wheel (DP) and found no interference. I moved it in all ways without problems.

Are you using the springs hooked directly to the tailwheel?

Yea the springs are a direct connect. I wiggled everything and couldn't get any servos to jump. I will definitely test some more but I don't think it will be a problem for my set up.

PS. 300 looks good I hope to build mine this coming winter

I have three DP airplanes with stock tail-wheels and have not noticed a problem. All are using PCM rcvrs that might be helping me. But I have had situations where the antenna position has caused problems. I also had a rcvr that had went bad and gradually started reacting to every little sorce of interferrence that it could find. Radio South reported that they repaired some bad connections - looked like excessive jarring - hmm .. I wonder what could have caused that?

Good Flying, seeya
