US purchased FASST OK for Australia?
Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting a Futaba 10channel FASST radio from Tower. Looking at the MAAA MOP on 2.4GHz it says we can only use radios which have a C-tick, which says they're certified for use down under. Does anyone know if the Futaba sets sold in USA differ at all from the ones we may be able to get here? Does anyone know if they have a C-tick sticker on them? Thanks!

Fasst systems have the same power level all over the world. In france, you have to set the switch from "general" to "france", but this only makes sure a portion of the band is not used.

G'day Stu.
Don't waste your money, buy one here in Aus, & get a genuine "C" tick, it's not worth the hassle, if someting goes wrong, & you need to claim on your MAAA insurance.
Peace of mind, is worth a lot more than the few dollars you might save.

I am from Rochester, NY. What is a C-tick sticker?

A C-tick sticker is a sticker demonstrating compliance with the local regulations. Each country seems to have its own idea of what is good and bad relating to RF comms and unfortunately we have to abide by them.
Alan, two reasons I don't want to get one locally: 1. I haven't found anywhere that stocks the 10C set with just Tx and Rx, 2. I'm tired of being ripped off by Australian retail hobby shops. There's absolutely no reason it should cost 30% more in Australia, yet the FASST systems I've seen advertised here do. It's time the wholesalers here stopped being so greedy, reduced their margins and allowed retailers to sell at the price they see fit (end of rant!).
Julez, I had a feeling they would all be the same, however we need the sticker for insurance purposes, without it we have to demonstrate compliance ourselves, which could get messy if required to do so.
Dirtybird, I fly standing on my head, so it should work OK!

RE: US purchased FASST OK for Australia?
stumax,
I am interested in this as well.
As im living in Asia if I buy here (when the 10C becomes available) i will have the same problem if I take it to Aus.
Apparently the MAAA have no restrictions.
Have a look here http://www.archeli.com.au/cobra/show...=116420&page=3 post #27.
These relate to Spektrum. I havnt found FCC certification on the 10C yet. But it must have one if already selling in the US.
From post #22 same thread http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_1768
See Conditions of Operaton.
If the FCC uses the same bandwidth and power output I should think your covered. But youd need a copy of the FCC approved test report.
Also Page 5 Apendix A http://www.maaa.asn.au/mop/policy/MO...uly%202007.pdf
Says Futaba FAAST are OK. Therefore if the power output is the same as the US FCC it should be OK as per the thread above.
Cheers

RE: US purchased FASST OK for Australia?
The MAAA MOP058 does NOT read you have to have a C-tick.
This is the meaning of MOP058 with waffle removed.
http://www.archeli.com.au/cobra/showthread.php?t=117080
All the same make/model radio sets sold in the USA are the same as those being sold in Australia except for the battery charger which for Australia has an Australian mains plug fitted and is intended to run on 240v. The importer/wholesaler(s) also apply a C-tick sticker to the radio.
The Exclusive importer wholesaler for JR/Spektrum is O’ Reilly Model Products C-tick number N12891 and for Futaba it is Toy Traders C-tick number N13182.
The C-tick issue is between you and your club and has nothing to do with insurance. Some clubs failing to understand MOP058 have mistakenly come up with the rule “No C-tick = no fly” so check with your club if they have that rule.
Read this thread to understand what I am on about. I also give pointers what you can do about being able to use a non C-tick radio at your club in the event they have a C-tick sticker Gestapo.
http://www.archeli.com.au/cobra/showthread.php?t=117742
More C-tick reading.
http://www.archeli.com.au/cobra/showthread.php?t=117057
Anyway I already have purchased a Futaba 10C from Tower which I ordered back in mid June. Price was $600USD - $50USD discount + $44.81USD postage = $594.81USD ($630.60AUD).
You can see my 10C here

Where it goes naked.
Take note of CustomPC’s comment with regards to expected Australian availability and price.

RE: US purchased FASST OK for Australia?
Here is another thread at 3D Downunder that deals with this heated topic

The whole discussion has become a minefield with a lot of people getting very unhappy due to a badly worded MOP
