Default What's up with Servocity.com?

They used to be lowest price on lots of servos - now they are the same as Tower, etc. Did they change hands? And look at THIS "special"!

To be fair, HF always has great loss-leaders.

SC hasn't had any of my business for a while. They seem much more interested in serving the robotics community.

HF's REGULAR price is $4.99!

But you don't really expect a boutique shop like SC to be able to match a chain's prices on everyday, non-specialized items, do you?

Cen-Tech is HF's house brand. ServoCity bought them fron HF and (originally) repriced them at 4x retail!

If they can turn a buck doing it, more power to them. That's just capitalism. Neither of us have any obligation to buy from them, right?

I know. I miss that.

Lately most of my servo purchases have been on the secondary market, where I've been buying up DS821s from DX7 owners on the cheap.

To be fair, the Hitec/Futaba/JR servo market has taken a pretty big hit from the cheap Chinese offerings. Who'd buy an HS55 for $14 when you can buy an equally good (some say *better*) HexTronic 9g servo for $4?

Likewise the slowly rising tide of half-decent digitals coming out of the East that make the name-brand offerings look awfully bad value.

I still eagerly wait Servo City's 20%-off sales. That's when it's really worth picking up a bulk lot of your favourite name-brand servos at a useful discount.

I've always had good service from SS and will remain a customer - when the price is right.

SC has gotten a few thou from me and they will continue to over time.
They have sales every so often and then I buy for the next project.
They have fast shipping and I have not needed warranty returns so far.
The economy is getting tight and they also need to SURVIVE.
It is nice to have a choice of vendors. Compitetion is a good thing.

i just got an order from s.c.

the servos averaged about a 1.50 more then some of the other locations i usually do business with, i breached over the 100 dollar mark and the free shipping turned the edge back to them for my order over some of the others.
shipping is rather quick to me from s.c. besides we all need a little bag of candy now and then

I looked at a few 'standard' servos and 4.8 volt receiver packs at Tower and Servo City. In some cases SC is a better deal. In others, TH is better or both places are the same.

When shopping for anything you have to look at all of your options and pick the one that is best for you.

Futaba
S3004 $13.99 at Tower and servo city
S3001 $19.99 at Tower and servo city
S3010 $24.99 at Tower and $22.99 at servo city
NR4J 4.8V 600mAh Rx Pack $17.99 at Tower and $12.95 at servo city
NR4RB 4.8V 1000mAh Rx Pack $37.99 at Tower and $14.95 at servo city

Hitec
HS-325HB $12.99 at Tower and servo city
HS-475HB $16.99 at Tower and 17.99 at servo city
4.8V 600mAh Rx Pack $11.99 @ Tower and $9.95 at servo city

Don't Servo City claim they'll match anyone else's prices?

I have no idea if they price match. I did not see it mentioned on the web site.

In the past SC has been opened for haggling over a multiple servo purchase. When I first purchased servos for my 1/3rd Scale Christen Eagle I emailed them and they gave me a significant (greater than 20% off their advertised price) discount on (6) HS-5645s and (1) HS-5945 and an RX.
