Default Questions about radios with more than 2 channels

I am looking at building a R/C model of a snowcat. I will need more than just throttle and steering to control it. I will have a plow blade on the front and a tiller(flattens the snow out) on the back.

I have never used a radio with more than 2 channels. I am just wondering how the other channels work and what they are capable of. I will need other channels to lift the plow blade up and down stopping anywhere in the motion. I want it to also curl and adjust the angle again stopping anywhere in the movement. For the rear tiller it will need to go up and down, full up and full down are the only two positions it will need. I might add some other features to the front blade or drive(controlling the two tracks individually) farther down the road.

Are the available channels on a 6 channel radio something that would be able to do this? I know if I want to add the other options later I will need a radio with more channels.

It depends on the 6 channel radio you purchase but most will do what you have described so far. As to future plans you will most likely need additional channels. The rear blade could be controled by the landing gear switch while the blade would be controlled by other channels. The biggest obstacle is that only the throttle stick is NOT spring loaded to the center position. Of course you could always remove the sticks.

The guys in this forum http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_147/tt.htm might be better able to guide you on specifics.

That was what I was wondering. I did not know if the other sticks were just switches or actual stick controls. Guess I am going to have to start researching radios and see which ones could work for me.
