Default Futaba 12FG and reciever compatibility

I purchsed a Futaba 12FG a couple of months ago to start conerting my 'airforce' over to 2.4 and just ran into a snag. My wife bought me a couple of R617FS recievers for my smaller electrics and I cannot get them to bind with the transmitter. As anyone who has pruchased the 12FG alredy knows, the manual is written for the 72MHz version and is completely useless for diagnosing 2.4GHz issues. I checked in the Futaba support forum and they recommended to another user to use the TM-14 'maunal'. According to the TM-14 'manual' the R617FS is compatible with the TM-14 when operating in 7 channel mode. The problem is that I cannot find anything on-line, at Futaba or in the manuals that tells me how to switch to 7 channel mode and using a $200, 14 channel reciever is a 37 ounce, electric 3D plane is simply not a viable option. It also does not switch or limit functionality on its own.

I'm starting to get that sinking feeling that I've made $1000 mistake. If somebody could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated. I'd also ask that we stick to the subject and avoid 'should have gone with JR/Spectrum' comments.

Thanks!

Hi Crash,

After you select the new model it will ask you what “Frequency†to use Select FASST 7CH, then link you new 617 to the 12FG and you all set.
You can use all the FASST rx's (Air) with the 12FG.

Thanks,
Doug.

You can download the Futaba 12FG update, unzip it and have the comlplete manual update.

http://2.4gigahertz.com/downloads/downloads.html

I have attached pages 2 and 3 from the update outlining how to change to 7 channel mode.

It's pretty simple when you have theinstructions.

Merry Christmas.
