Default Futaba to Hitec buddy system. Will it work?

Hey people. I have a new guy a the club that wants to learn but he as a Futaba receiver and nobody else does. Most of us fly Hitec with a few JR. Can we connect this guys Futaba as the master to my Hitec Prism7x using the Hitec buddy cord safely?

I've done some reading and it seems to be an area of some confusion. The last thing I want is to have a radio destroyed or get a glitch while flying. I fully understand that it would be easiest for this guy to buy a Hitec radio but it seems to not be an option.

Thanks in advance

Hi Dig it,

If you are using a Futaba radio (as instructor) with a Hitec radio (as student), you must use a Futaba Trainer Cord (FUTM4410).
If you are using a Hitec radio (as the instructor) with a Futaba radio (as the student) you must use a HiTec cord (HRCM8310)

I hope you find this information helpful. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at 217-398-8970 for Support, 217-398-0007 for Service or via fax at 217-398-7721 or by email at [email protected].

Default Yes

It works fine with the Hitec as either the master or student. As long as the cord is a hitec directional cord, do not use the Futaba cord. The Hitec cord is directional meaning it is marked 'student' and 'master' and must be plugged in the appropriate direction.

Just returned this morning from a buddy flight with a Skyport as master and a Prism as student.

Important Information Regarding Trainer cord compatibility

To our valued customers,

While Hitec radios are known to be trainer compatible with other Hitec and Futaba systems, Hitec has determined that the two-way Futaba cord is not 100% compatible with our systems and strongly suggests it not be used at any time.

Our tests show that when the Futaba trainer cord is used with a Hitec radio the slave transmitter will emit an RF signal, thus creating a potentially dangerous interference situation, and in some cases will burn up components in the slave and or master radio.

Hitec suggests that only the one-way Hitec trainer cord (#58310) be used with Hitec radio systems for training. Failing to do so will void the customers warranty and could create a potentially dangerous situation. Hitec apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of our customers is our utmost concern.
