buddy box set up
Is there a problem connecting a 2.4 Ghz radio to a 72 Mhz FM radio and using the 72 meg radio as a student TX? Both radios are Futabas.

RE: buddy box set up
Our RC model club has been conducting a Training program, at our club field, for many years. We either take them up on one of our two club trainer planes, or we provide Buddy Boxes and take them up on their own planes.
I have seen all kinds of Buddy Box combinations. As students transitioned to computer radios, it became tougher to get a Non-Computer radio to work as a Buddy Box. It is always a challenge to get two Tx's, that are not the same model, to work together.
With regards to 2.4 systems, I have seen both Futaba FASST and Spektrum work with Buddy Boxes.
The Buddy Box does not transmit, so it is not necessarily important that the Master is on 72Mhz or 2.4. Some of the newer radios have Trainer programs whose parameters need to be set properly in order for the Master to work with the Buddy Box.
It is much easier if both radios are the same Brand and Model, especially if you want the Buddy Box to be able to control more than just Throttle, Aileron, Elevator, and Rudder.
Some of the problems you run into could be that the Buddy Box does not work at all, the Trims are out of Sync, Channels need to be Reversed, etc..
