Default Shortening Servo Leads

Having just went through the nightmare of replacing a servo in a plane I aquired that had the servo lead and servo extention glued to each rib in a 74" ws wing, I was wondering why servo leads couldn't be shorten to say 2". I have a couple large planes on the board and just aquired 33% that I'll strip down to the bone and make sure every thing is OK before flying. I was thinking of shortening the servo lead to 2" and then makeing a custom extention the exact length needed. I'll also make someshortextentions from the receiver to the longestention running throughthe wing. This approach seem logical to me, but I've not heardof anyone doing it. Itcan't be a new idea, and if it has been tried, why isn't it used more often.

Before I start performing surgery on the wires, I would like to know if anyone else has triedthis and if it worked OK.

Default RE: Shortening Servo Leads

I don't shorten the servo lead, Icut it in the middle, splice in some 18awg wire to make the lead the exact length I want.
N0 extentions, no problems.

I have often wondered why they don't make them with short leads as an option

Sure that would work. Remember that each connector is a point of resistance. I use "tailstrike's" method. With this method, if you ever have to remove the servo, you unplug it from the RX, tie a string around it, unbolt the servo, and pull it out. Tape the string to the wing and it will help you put the wire back in. Having the extension "glued to each rib" was not necessary at all.
