Default JR X388S

I have an old JR X388S radio that has worked fine for more years than I can remember. I have read where they have a internal bat. wired in for memory?, Or something. Should this radio be sent in to have this replaced? Will I lose a model at some unknow time?

I'm considering changing this radio to 2.4. Is Spectrum the only one who makes the conversion module? I understand that you can then change back and forth between the 2.4 and 72, so that I can still fly my older planes w/o having to change all my rx. Is this how it works?

Is there anything else that I should know about this swap. Does it end up with the model memory like Spectrum radios or do you still have to pick the right model before flying?

Any information you can supply would be a great help. Thank you!
