Crystal swap problem?
Hi,
I have 2 questions:
1) When I swap crystal from one transmitter to another, even same manufacturer or different one, I have a problem that the power totally cut off when I fly.
2) I have Hitec transmitter, Hitec receiver, Hitec servos. I don't have any problem when using at all. But when I use the Futaba transmitter for the Hitec receiver and Hitec servos, sometimes I have a problem that when I have the Futaba transmitter so close to the airplane, the servos move itself repeatly. I have to disconnect the battery and re-connect it, and have transmitter far away, then it is OK. It does not work together when you have mix manufactures, or my transmitter has some problem?
Thanks

Crystal swap problem?
It is illegal to swap crystals like you mentioned. I don't know about the power problem but I can tell you that it is against FCC rules and it will void your AMA insurance.

Crystal swap problem?
Where is it posted that it is illegal to swap crystals between recievers of the same make? That is ridiculous and will not void your AMA insurance. They sell receivers everday (hitec) without crystals and when you decide which channel you want they go to the drawer and pull out the crystal.
Swapping between two different makes is another story. Some have a different polarity. If you are using a HItec Spectra module then you will have to adjust your polarity (positive or negative) based upon the reciever make you are using.

BTW crystals don't have "polarity". Transmitters and receivers have different shifts but Futaba and Hitec are the same.
jnguyen - if you really mean the power cuts off it will not be because of the crystal change. If you just mean the transmitter and receiver don't work together then there are a lot more things to check e.g. is everything on the same channel ?

Tommy:
You are correct, it is not illegal to swap crystals between receivers. However, in his post he was talking about swapping crystals between transmitters (his question #1) - which is illegal in this country.

Crystal swap problem?
Hi all,
Thanks for all your response. I learn alot from this site. Anyway, I think I did post my questions and I meant different things.
I said I "swap", but actually I did not. I bought an airplane" Tiger Moth", and this is my first airplane. When I bought it, I also bought Hitec transmitter channel 46, Hitec receiver and Hitec servos as well. Then, I like the Futaba transmitter 6EXA model, when I bought it, I ask for channel 46 as well. It comes with it, I did not swap anything.
Here is the thing I have problem. When I use the Hitec transmitter, no problem. But when I use Futaba transmitter, then power cut off sometimes when I fly? I don't know why.
Also, when I have my Futaba transmitter so close to my airplane, the elevator and rudder servos move. Is it supposed to?
Sorry for the confusion.
Please help.

Crystal swap problem?
That is a bit different.
It's quite normal for servos to move around a bit when the transmitter is very close to the receiver. It usually only happens within a foot or two and particularly when the tranmitter antenna is fully extended. The transmitter signal is too powerful that close and it confuses the receiver/servos.
When you say "then power cut off" do you mean on the transmitter or on the plane ? If the plane is it just that the motor stops (it is an electric motor I guess) or do you lose all power, i.e. the servos stop working as well and you have no control at all ?
