I'm another new pilot wondering which radio to choose from too big a selection. I'm starting out on thermal gliders (the spirit), want to advance into 100" + full control surface (aileron, flap, spoiler...) gliders, with the thought of getting into power later down the road. I,m considering a Hitec Lazer 4 or 6 channel, but don't know about the mixing capabilities-do I need a computer radio? Any help from you pros would be very much appreciated!!!

kinda had the same question as you a few months back. I ended up with a Futabe 9C from servo city. I really like the radio.
I have been slowly adding my 11 sailplanes to it and currently have 5 in memory. Go to Servo city and check it out

I was in the same boat (minus the glider part) and went with the Eclipse. Saved a little money and got a great 7 channel Tx. Does all sorts of computer mixing (wish it did CROW in airplane mode) but overall I am very happy with it.
now all I gotta do is learn the programming on it...
