Hitec HS-635HB can you convert to non-carbonite servo?

Problem is this plane has carbonite servos HS-635HB on all controls

As we now know Carbonite dose not mix well with larg gas motors, so what can I do guys?

Can I upgread the gears to metal? Or even plastic?

I'm not scared of useing plastic gear servos as my first gaint P51 used 80oz plastic Futaba servos with no issues. And I was told buy some who have been flying longer than me that plastic servos is all war bird guys used in the past

I hate to just replace them all as all but 2 of my birds are 30-50cc planes

Where does this "carbonite does not mix well with large gas motors" come from ?

And more interesting why?

Are you referring to insufficient structural strength?

I have to look but I think it even says on Hitecs web site that they don't go together

You are correct .

I found it , just as you said

Note: Be aware that high vibration gas (not glow) engines combined with large control surfaces and large throws (3D models) can put undue strain on the gears. Metal geared servos are recommended for these applications even if under 12lbs.

Warning: Do not use thread lockers on Karbonite geared servo as it will cause the output shaft to fail.

RE: Hitec HS-635HB can you convert to non-carbonite servo?

It will bust a gear almost every time to!! I have the 5485"S Im not sure if you can use metal gears from any of the other 54XXX series servos or not!! I use 645 MG In most of my stuff. But I have 6 5485 digitals Im not using cause of this issue!! I have a 27% Edge 540 with a ZDZ 40cc in it and it busted one elevator at idle so No more of that!! It was on the ground when it happened. Lucky me.. But I would use them only as Hitech sais to! Just my 2C...
