The process for binding the R617FS receiver is:
Power on the transmitter.
Hold the little button while connecting power to the receiver.
After powering on the RX continue to hold the button and count to ten slowly.
The RX status light should change to solid green after releasing the button. This indicates the RX is bound to the TX.

If other transmitters are in use it is possible to bind the RX to the wrong TX. Move to an area without other TXs.

I suspect the 6EX transmitter has the Zero GUID problem. If the radio has only been used with the original R606FS all these years, that would mask the problem. All newer FASST receivers will not link to to a transmitter that has lost the GUID, a zero GUID is invalid, and an R617FS will not link to it, but an R606FS will
The R606FS and R617FS are virtually identical and the link procedure is the the same.
I would contact Hobby Services (if you're in the US) and see if they still fix it for no charge, though it has been a long time now.
Pete
