Hard crash cause crystal range problems?
 

Flying Great Planes Slinger with am radio. Crashed hard and Rx stopped working. Bought a new Hitec am receiver and used the old crystal and now I have range problems. So the question is can a receiver crystal be good but have range problems after a crash?

Was the original radio also a Hitec, if not the crystals may not be compatable. If it was, the crystal could be damaged. They are actually quite fragile and could have easily been damaged in the crash.

Original receiver was a Hobbico, on bottom of transmitter it say hitec focus3 ss am 72. So i assumed that it is a hitec receiver re-branded with the Hobbico name. I will pick up a new crystal and let you know.

Crystal is the easiest part of the receiver to damage. It apparently has some very thin wafers of quartz inside that are tuned somehow to the frequency, and they can easily be broken.

Every time I hit hard enough to cause damage to the model, I replace the crystal. Cheap insurance. All of my models are worth far more than the price of a receiver crysta.

I put in a new crystal and all is well. Thanks to everyone.
