I don't like the feel of the 2 push button digital trim in all computer radios...
But as far as the digital trim features are concerned they are excellent.

I want the feel of the trim to be like the conventional mechanical trims but with a spring action to centre it after adjustment and should save the position upto which the trim was moved for each model. Any input from you guys...

So you want to move the trim knob around until the model does what you want and then let go?


As a helicopter guy I would say that's not workable. Helicopters (and few planes I've flown as well) require continual stick inputs. Trimming the cyclic input consists of making trial adjustments then seeing whether the average stick position is where you want it.

It would be almost impossible to coordinate moving the trim knob and holding it in position while also flying the stick with the same hand.

If you just want to be able to get big trim changes in a hurry and then do fine adjustments, some radios have two-step digital trims. Push the knob gently and you get small, incremental changes. Push hard and you get a larger change. The size of both trim steps is configurable.

I'm not sure I know what you are saying. My 9C and some other computer radios I have worked with have a trim button that you push in the direction you want to trim; not two different buttons for up/down and left/right. In either case, I set my trims to make larger changes for first flights to get the plane as close as I can, then I adjust the trims to make very small changes in subsequent flights. I find it easier to hit the button once, rather than trying to make exactly one click with a mechanical slider while flying the plane.

How about auto trim?

Hold the sticks where you want the trim top be, push the auto trim button and hold it, let the sticks go to neutral release the button and the trims are set?

Auto trim has been in the ACE Micropro transmitter for years, and is now avalable in kit form and assembled transmitters from jensen jet models in the form of the Microstar system.

Both of these radios have PC interface capability and a ton of programming features. In fact you program the thing with the sticks and a button, pretty easy.

Phil Cole is correct. Unless you have flown and trimmed a helicopter then you wouldn't understand. It is definitely not the same as a plane.

I have flown a helicopter.

Back in the dark days:

Cut my teeth on a GMP Cricket 4 channel no gyro no mixing! I even looped if once.

Upgraded to a GMP Cobra 5 channels and a Kraft Gyro, minimal mixing.

I could have used autotrim on the Cobra, but the cricket was way to hairy
