interference from another TX
 

Today after my last flight at the BARCS field in Richmond, California I was collecting up my stuff when I saw all the control surfaces of my plane going crazy. I had turned off my transmitter but had inadvertantly left the receiver on and it was getting some kind of noise from another guy's transmitter as he was flying his plane. When he turned off his transmitter the activity on my plane stopped. At first he said it must have been outside interference but when he turned on his transmitter again my plane started a boogy'in again. He said it would stop if I turned on my transmitter and, sure enough, it did and my plane responded normally. By the way, we were both up in the air several times at the same time and I had no problems then.

My questions are:

1. Is this normal? (I'm new to this sport)
2. Do I have anything to worry about?


His radio- Airtronics 6 ch. channel 34
My radio- Futaba 4 ch. 4vf channel 36

This is absolutely normal, you have nothing to worry about. As long as this doesn't happen while your TX is on. With your TX off yout RX is searching for just about anything and will pickup stray signals from other TX's

What channels are the two respective transmitters on? At what range were you getting the interference at?

The radio particulars are in my query and the distance was anywhere from 5' to 50'.

Considering the channels were close it's not too odd, but I'd be disgruntled if my radio was generating harmonics that strong. It's just sloppy.

Sounds normal.

Do a range check just to be comfortable- your radio at 100' with antenna collapsed, his radio 10' from plane with antenna fully up. You should have no interference.

This is normal, with your transmitter off, your reciever's AGC opens wide open and reacts the any RF in the area.
