RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System

Just an FYI I received my two bonus receivers (1 free and one half price, total $40) yesterday. It only took about 2 weeks from the time I sent in the coupon. Now that's a deal, an outstanding radio and 3 7 channel receivers for <$450.

Also I have one 7 channel radio in stock and available. Now have many flights in 2 different planes, as solid as it gets.

I bit the bullet today and had my LHS order one for me. I went with the Aurora and a 9 channel rx. I had him order an extra 7 channel rx also. What's the deal with the coupon? Is it included with the transmitter, or do you need to send in a sales receipt to get it or what?
Now the waiting begins.[sm=sad_smile.gif]

rebate comes with radio!! You do need a sales receipt copy to send in.

I received my radio yesterday from Tom Fawcett, WildHare....he got it on Friday - I had in my hands on Monday afternoon. Sent in the 7channel receiver coupon today.Cannot beat two 7 channel receivers for $40, no matter how you slice it.

I setup my GPElectric Yak effortlessly....I say effortlessly but that is after some angst....being a devout JR user for years, and Futaba before that, I kept trying to make it HARD. The Aurora is NOT *hard*. In fact, the program is so simplistic and direct that my own mental blocks were in the way.

Anyway - I overcame it and found my "Most FavoriteFeature" already....J1 is "elevator"....(J1 is a stick axis).... so...I can assign J1 to operate as many channels as I want. They all will retain individual sub trim, ATV, and will operate simultaneously!!!! For my biplane addiction, that means that I can assign all four ailerons to the same stick axis (J2, on my setup), and never use a mix!!!! WOW!!!

I also found a thing that is kind of hokey...at least on mine....when entering the model name, or user name, the little beeper-piezo installed under the display sounds like a cricket getting choked. IT's a strange sort of half-chirp, half-beep, and it only does it in the "keyboard" mode. All the rest of the time is sounds like a regular chirp thingy.

The only true "beef" I have is that the NiMh battery was / is crap. It would not accept the output of the charger to bring them up to spec, but for me that isn't an issue as I have a 2S 2500 LiPo that is now installed. I don't think I'll have to recharge before Spring.

The radio "feels" just wonderful, the gimbals are exceptionally smooth, and my JRstuff is OUTTAHERE!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I forgot something else REALLYimportant..... I put all three of my dual rates on the same switch...on this airplane, that saves me hunting around. One switch - pow - all three rates go full....the benefit of this is simply just not having to remember multiple switches. I can see Flight Conditions in my future with my big gasser Bipes.

Also - on Rudd>Aileron and Rudd>Elev (set this up in Camber Mix - Thanks, Tom Fawcett for discovering!!!), using NOswitch, just leaving "null", which means they are "active" full time.....and that is another switch I don't have to worry about remembering. I'll eventually assign "airborne adjustment" to these to make trimming my aerobats easier, but for right now, ONEday old, this is a pretty hot setup!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm smilin'...... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gif

Bob....You still running A123 packs.
Does the telemetry feature work with this cell chemistry?

Perfectly! It sends the airborne RX voltage being supplied to the RX.That is indepent of what chemistry. Volts is volts....and the TX displays the digits. Very cool. Cannot wait till the sensor package is available.

Bob-You probably know, but just a reminder, that we can get into trouble (as in loosing an airplane) if we start depending on voltage reading with our A123 Rx'r packs, FWIW.:D

Got mine yesterday (finally) TX charger shuts down after about 60 minutes, and won't charge the battery. Anyone else having issues like this?

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System

Absolutely.....it's only there for the looks. I monitor avg. ma / min by measurement on all my planes, and keep close track of "on time" during a flying session. You are correct to mention it, though....we don't want folks WRONGLYthinking that measurement of voltage, loaded or un, on the A123 chemistry CAN be a predictor of remaining capacity when in fact it CANNOT. Good post!!!

Any recommendations for a 2S lipo that fits?

I'm using a 2S2500 Zippy. Fits perfectly.

Sorry Bob Can't seem to find a little more detail on the battery? Where did you buy, part number, please.

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System

HobbyCity.....HK...this particular one started life as a 3S, I simply removed a cell, rewired the connector, cutoff the original Hitec connector, spliced to replace the JR connector that was on the pack. EZ.

Bob...does the receiver battery get a load put on it to get the battery condition, or is the telemetry from the receiver battery real time reading without load. If there is a load what is it.
I'll also agree that an A123 cells remaining charge shouldn't be determined with a volt meter. Good point gsc116.

THe telemetry is just whatever the instantaneous voltage is on the power buss in the RX, so it would be reflective of dynamic loads/unloads in flight....of course, you have to have another set of eyeballs watching the TX until the Sensor module becomes available.

Bob,

Are you charging the lipo battery in the transmitter or taking it out and using the balance wires too.

rctom 11-10-2009 11:22 PM

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System

I bought a 2150mah Lipo from Tanic for the transmitter, they will supply it with the Hitec connector if you ask. Be sure you get a 2S, the radio uses only 7-8 volts.

I charge mine outside the radio, have not even tried to do it in the radio. I also have tried a 6 cell eneloop nimh pack that I bought from batteriesamerica.com, it also worked fine.

Thanks Tom. I would just as soon go with the eneloops but have not found the battery on batteriesamerica yet. I did find a battery tray #6AAT, is this what you bought from them and put the eneloops in?

No, just call them and tell them what you want. 3 wide x 2 long AA eneloop pack with Hitec connector and a 4" lead. Tell them to send you what they sent me the second time, they should remember that mine was wrong and they had to replace it, or send them a photo of your original pack.

The dimensions of the battery compartment are 110 x 45.5 x 16 (L x W x H).
Refer pictures thread Aurora Battery Compartment posts 643 and 644.
