Switching batteries in flight.
 

Hi

I have a Futaba 7c. Should I be having a flight time of more than the transmitter battery can cope with, would it be possible to turn off the transmitter and replace the battery, and then reconnect to the aircraft?

Unless you have an unusually large airborne pack your transmitter pack should outlast it many times over. However, your question is can you turn off your transmitter, replace the battery and then reacquire control of your aircraft, has this possible answer. If you have proper failsafe setup and are high enough so the plane can safely glide for the required time, then Yes, it should be theoretically possible as the plane would be in freeflight mode for that time. I would not trust doing so myself but, theoretically, it is possible.

On some of the duration tasks, such as the 8hr slope duration for CSS Diamond pin. It is common to place a Y harness in the transmitter to facilitate a swap during the flight. Hope this helps.

Follow BarracudaHockey suggestion only one problem,you will need to arrange for a tanker as the lipo battery will last for a week or so.:)

I have converted 3 of my transmitters over to 2650mah Li-Po packs so far. Average about 8hrs of safe run time. After that amount of transmitting they require near 2500 mah to replenish, balanced.
