On a track that large, you want to max out your RPM just before you hit the brakes on the back straight. shifting later than that would cause you to run out of road before you ran out of gear. Also - all the cars you see are running highly modified race engines that can accelerate almost as fast in second as any other car you have seen can accelerate in first.

I got the movie from another site.
Using a torquey(sp) engine, you want to maximize your rpm range in a large track. Get the car moving and get to the second gear earlier and get up to speed faster. Smaller tracks, you would shift it a bit later.
Nitro - your friend driving looks smooth. What kind of car is that. What is the powerplant under the body?

I was running a Trinity Reflex NT with an RB Concepts Rody Modified V12.
He was running a Mugen MTX3 with an RB Concepts Rody Modified X12.
He is VERY VERY good, state series champion.

State series champion? That explains it. I wish my driving was that smooth.
BTW, how is the rody holding up for you. I don't think so but I gotta ask. Any regrets? Did you wish you went with something else?
I had a discussion with someone at the track about RBs not holding up their tune. He loves picco. I run RB. I guess I irretated him by my saying piccos are hard to tune and RBs will run all day without touching the needles.
Anyway, takes some videos of your reflex running and post. Would love to see it.

piccos are a ***** to tune, thats why all the guys that run piccox12's replace the carb with a nova one. The RODY V12 i got has been just amazing. power is second to none, MUCH faster than Kevin's RODY X12. tuning has been perfect, not hard to tune at all, and holds well - temps have averaged about 215, with max temp readings of about 240. already have close to a gallon in it. I am racing against Kevin at his home track n Cocoa on DEC 20th. i will try to get some footage there.

Ok just wanted to know the reason for it. It looked to me that the driver had/has a lot of experience and was wondering if it was a test run but What you said about *****g the RPM's makes sense..........if you have an engine that can do it hehe.

a touring car is not much fun unless u are racing, and if u are racing, dont get the cen. I would go with the MT. I am an onroad guy, but i race almost every week, so its perfect for me.

RE: Nitroaddict - is this your track????
Actually on a smaller track you want the shift point to be earlier or you will never see the top end of the engine.
On long straights you want the engine to strecth it's legs but not reach max RPM early, when that happens you end up running the top of the motor down the rest of the straight.
I set my gears to get the maxumum pull out of first and then the maximum out of second for long straights. There is still just a little left on the top before I let off for the turn. The track I am speaking of has a 250 to 300ft straight.
On the track I have been running on recently (a lot smaller) I would never even get a chance to think about hitting second with the above configuration. Lap times would be embarrasing....lol
Watching the video I thought the driver rode second gear a little long before shutting down off the straight, A slightly later shift might carry him a little further without rubbing the top end like that. It was very close, I don't maybe he likes it like that.
Nice track!
