the car is good I think.... nice set up... good speed...
standard 200mm...26mm tires for lots of different bodies and wheels/tires....
downfalls:
The controller looks cheap (i getting a futaba)
Belts get chewed up quickly due to pebbles and looks like a PITA to get to for replacement...(going to cover that area with tape)
replacement parts look to be about twice the price of hpi

I have had a CT4S for only about a year. It is my first R/C, and I think I should have done more research. It is a really fast car, and maybe too fast for my lack of driving skills. I was interested in drifting, and the belts have come off on more than 3 occasions. I have only driven the car about 10 times. When I switched to a Tiger Drive I had some starting problems for over 4 months.
Overall, I liked the car initially, but I don't think I made the right choice. I think this is for more flat out speed, straight line on smooth debri free surfaces, which is hard to come by in large areas. My LHS doesn't stock parts for the car either, and Im not he most patient person. I am trying to save up for another 10th nitro onroad. A Kyosho Shaft Drive...wonder which one...FWO5T/S
I could have done more research and came out with a better basher. Radio is the first thing I upgraded, by the way.
Kinda long but that's my .02

jmt-1..............You made a very good point it takes a whole lot of room for CT4s and other cars like it (fusion21) to reach top speed and I believe alot of people buy these cars not realizing they are built for top end speed from the factory. We live in a crowded world it is hard to find a open space that is big enough to let these monster really wind out. I think it would take about 300-600 feet for them to hit their advertized top speed!! When you get an rc car that far away from you it is hard to see and you set yourself up for potential radio interference.

I had a CEN CT4-S for about a month and nothing wrong has gone wrong with it, i had a few crashes and some parts broke pretty easily but it was only like 15 bucks to repair, and the provided radio system is pretty cheap so i went on ans bought a futaba 3pk and put a venom speed meter and a venom temperature module and i got my car to go about 81 mph on the rose bowl parking lot, i also checked the speed with a radar gun because i didnt trust the vsm so much, by the way im thinking of getting one of the boost bottles, but im not that sure if they are worth it, and if anyone has one or has had experience with a cent ct4s please tell me if it worht it or not; on the other hand i also wanted for looks, as to say im only 13 and into all that kind of stuff.
By the way if you buy a Futaba 3PK make sure you get the one with the HRS reveiver along with some digital servos and some 6volt rechargle hump packs.
it works really good on my ct4s except that with regular alkalines the batteries drain in about 3 minutes and the voltage is low so the built in fail safe doesnt work anymore on the HRS receiver!

Hi,
Just bought a Cen ct4s. looking at upgrades before i use it, cause from what i gather, the belts come off and the top speed is a bit hard to reach? any upgrades i should buy or tricks i should do to make the car better? - i have already fitted a temperature gauge and failsafe.
thanks.

If you scroll down a bit on the "RC Cars, Buggies and Trucks", you will see a section called "CEN Racing". You can find all the information you need about the CT4S. Just do a search on what you want to know about the CT4S. You should beable to find all the answers you need and want. If not, some one will be glad to help you out. There are quit afew up-grades and miner adjustments you can do to get your car looking and running better.

Ive got one. Not as maintenance free as some cars, but the performance is well worth it. There are just a few things to keep an eye on and you'll have plenty of fun and no problems. It also helps to know what you're doing to help prevent issues.
Just a couple tips for the car:
-Biggie: The steel on the spring tensioner sucks. It slacks, causing belt problems. Bend some spring steel as replacement and replace the stock bearings with flanged. This will solve ALL main belt issues. Still run the belt on the tight side.
-Tape the bottom openings to prevent rocks from jamming the drivetrain.
-Remove the "roll bar". It often doesnt fit properly causing metal to metal and RF noise.
-Buy a small assortment of spare parts. Usually all you need is a suspension arm kit and front and rear bulkheads. The rears are easy to break. Also get some hingepins.
-Spend $60 and put a better radio in it. This is almost a must.
-I spent an hour and ported the engine sleeve. Noticed a definite increase in pickup with the long gears.
-I also put an Ofna 21 on mine which really woke it up.
Those are the main issues We've had that if you take care of, you'll have a comparatively trouble free ride.

have had my ct4-s for about 6 months now and have only driven it about 4 times. only because the first time i drove it, like another person has said, one of the batteries fell out, and i smoked a curb and broke a front bulkhead, second time i drove it it ran great once i got it started, third time i drove it a stone got stuck in one of the gears and it didnt want to go so i messed around w/ that for a while, and then yesterday when i drove it, something in the tranny got messed up and now it slips ALOT so i need to do a tear down.
the only downside that i have noticed and im not sure if its just my motor or what, but it seems to take FOREVER to get it running ... i prime right from what i can tell and then put on the igniter and sit there and pull for about 5 min. until my arm gets tired and then recharge the igniter, and wait about 15 min and go back at it ... after 2 or 3 times of doing this it finally starts ... that's the only thing that i can notice about being bad on this car .. NEED electric start!

Make sure when you get it that the factory guys havn't set the front track width too wide!!!!
We were running a mate's for the first time and the front driveshafts come right out and the first thing we knew was we lost all control of the beast.
Initially thought the front diff had loosened right up but on closer inspection found drive shafts gone.
Found them, put them back and brought front wheel carriers in so they could not escape, problem fixed.

Hi all, got a 2nd hand ct4s for pretty cheap and in good cond. didn't have carby settings so took me I while to get it tuned to the point where I could drive it, was still sluggish of the mark but top speed was ok, problem was I was getting interference or something and the car would lose contact and go crazy, crazy into the wall BAM BREAK there goes the front left bulkhead[:'(]. Dammit! After inspection the bulkhead did not have all the screws and was probably pretty weak, my own fault should have inspected the car b4 running. Tried new transmitter same prob figured it was the reciever but decided to get a decent radio JR XS3 synthesised. Works like a treat
. now back 2 tuning, messed around with the lsn, quite a lot better now not so sluggish of the mark but not perfect. Ran 3 tanks without stopping drove as hard as I could trying to strip a belt or gear as I have read people having a lot of problems with their belts but was unsuccessful COOL! I even ran it so hard that I think it over heated and white smoke started coming out of the exhaust ***. don't have a temp gauge did the old spit test seemed ok but let it cool for 5, primed it, pulled it and away it went, put another 2 tanks through it and no prob. not sure what speeds I was doing am going to test it sometime and will post it. Going to do some more tuning and will post when have some more results. Overall drove it hard no breakages, got it goin pretty quick = good day out for the rc's.

Hi all, Took the ct4s 4 another bash around the streets BAD idea... Well maybe, chasing my mates Z500(kawasaki motorbike) Hit a cat's eye in the ground (those little reflective bits in the road 2 help u c at night) at... well pretty fast, it flipped bumper over bumper 4 a good 10-15 metres (couldn't stop gigglng, haven't pranged like this ever LOL) b4 it bounced in the air puts a big 12inch scratch down my mates (mayb EX mate) car(his door 2 b exact), man I wish I had a VC 2 record it all bcause Ive seen some pretty bad reviews about this car, CEN CT4S. I bent the rear right tie rod end screw and that was it, I can tell you that I Have been into gp & ep cars 4 a while now and it really comes down 2 driver experience. No matter how much u spend on an RC, The faster u go the harder its going to the wall, and saying that U Learn From Your Mistakes and mistakes r how u learn... anything in life. If u r new 2 rc on or off road I would do research on the car that u r interested in have a look at some forum posts (but do not make your final decision on what you read ) Experience does matter not only land vehicles but All RC terrains. check parts availability with your LHS and above all make sure its NITRO (LOL) and HAVE SOME DUDE/S/ETTES.
Hope this OK.

Hey Larkup25. Where on the Gold Coast are you? I am in Southport. I get down to the big carpark opposite Asutralia Fair some weekends and bash around a bit. Have you tried to race the CEN? I also have a CT4S. I am pretty keen to get to a track and have a go.

Hey bazooka,
I live at kirra, keen 2 organise a weekend and have a bash,( my email : [email protected] )what's the carpark like I'ts hard to find somewhere big enough to drive the ct4s. the only track i know that is close enough is at... well check this link out http://www.gcmr.org.au/. Have u done any mods to the car, I have a duatrax torq 21 spare that at the moment looks like it will slot straight in to the ct4s but i need (not sure what is called a maybe a pilot shaft) bcause the crank is not long enough. I'm also going 2 try my hand at some porting and polishing on the cen motor looks easy enough if you have a rotary tool (GULP! i hope)Luckily my best mate just happens 2 be well in the know when it comes 2 engines, so bring on the mods! LOL.

Yeah I have done the drive belt mod to give me fast acceleration but it lowered the top end speed. No big deal. Still happy with it. I loose front drive shafts all of the time and they are so hard to source. Where do you get parts from on the Gold Coast?

hey bazooka,
I think I read somewhere you need to make sure your front steering hubs are not to far out or you lose drive shafts. you can move them in or out by adjusting the 2 hex screws (the smaller ones)inside where the wheel goes on, try and get both sides the same as not to mess up your handling to much. It is hard to find parts, I have 2 buy online through *********.com.au. Pricing is pretty good and postage is fast. I have had no problem with them.

Hi All,
Anyone still running a "vintage" CEN Racing CT4-S? Or looking to sell?
Keen to see who is putting historical plates on this classic and making the most of the mid 00s nostalgia.

Hello, me and my son still drive on track in Belgium as a hobby with our 2 old (2004 and 2006) Cen CT-4r cars with the NX-15 engine. (I used to have the O.S. engine TZ Spec2 on it for a while, but that engine eats up the belts). But now we are also in trouble to get parts, for example, I now need the belts (CT020) and do not currently find them here in Belgium.
