has anyone heard from our dear CAPTAIN??? Haven't seen a post for a while.

On a side note, I may be selling my SMARTECH [sm=surprised.gif] as I need the money for other projects (my real cars). It will be the last of my 'toys' to go, so I'm hoping I can get enough from selling my other stuff that I can keep this one toy. Don't ask about price or anything yet, but if I do have to sell it, I'll ask the list 1st if anyone would like to buy it b4 posting it elsewhere.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Nice job dude! Thats known as "detonating the clutch bell". Yep, you need a new clutch bell and clutch shoes, and have to hope the crankshaft isn't bent.

Now would be a good time to upgrade to 2 speed if that came out of an onroad car.

else if you are interested I still have my 1spd bell complete with bushings, pilot shaft, screw and washers just sitting on my hobby shelf
pm me and we can discuss further. it's been sitting idle since I upgraded my commando to 2spd. you will still need clutch shoes tho.

i think he should be ok crankshaftwise. my main reason for not liking SG shafts too much. any damage incurred would have been to the pilotshaft/nut.

Not a problem... 2peed for offroad is not recommended... Picture this you hit a nice ramp and get airborn.. since the wheels are in their air the tranny will hit 2nd speed... now with the wheels spinning real fast you land.. that is a lot of stress on the tranny and diffs... you may end up stripping gears or diffs. 2 speed is more for onroad than offroad.

but here is the parts you will need for the upgrade
#45069 2 SPD Clutch Bell $8.99 from Excel Hobby
#35004 2 SPD Transmission $19.99 from Excel Hobby
#45072 Winner Pro Flywheel/pins/axel $3.90 from rcmart <-- Mainly you need the pilot shaft from this kit. it is a bit longer
than the one that came installed in your car for the one speed bell. The two speed bell is 1mm longer than the one speed for obvious reasons.

FYI.... DON't and I repeat DON't get the stock smartech clutch shoes.[X(]
go with Duratrax White Nylon Shoes DTXC7156 or Kyosho Alloy Shoes IF204

Considering Testors is a model-orientated company, you'll probably be ok. I used Krylon Fusion for plastics. My next body, I will try to have more patience. I sprayed only 2 coats of the prism paint and it only gave a metal flake look rather than a color changing effect.

Are you doing any masking on the new body?

So, anyone else have problems steering? How do I fix the play in the steering? I have a winner pro, and it seems to have ball bearings all around but the bellcrank doesn't have any. Is there any type of mod you guys do using parts off another car?

Step 1. Remove stock steering servo. (Trash)
Step 2. Install a decent servo.
Step 3. Steering quality improves by quality of servo.

at least get some basic servos like futaba s3003s. they are MUCH better than the stock ones. I didn't want to spend too much on this car so they were perfect at $10 each

When I first broke it in, I put in a 2055 traxxas servo, and it only helped a little. I've replaced all the electronics. That's why i'm thinking it's the bellcrank. Has anybody modified their bellcrank or replaced it with something else? Or do I get to blaze that particular trail myself?

got my pipe today, turns out that the one i originally ordered wouldnt have worked because the pressure valve is on the bottom. maybe i can use it for something else, or fill that hole in and make a new one. anyway, since they sent me the wrong one to begin with, and let me keep it, its all good now, and im ready to run and tune!
