Broken connecting rod
Hi, Ran in my rs4 rtr 3 evo 15 today and during the 4th tank I went to start it and the roto start would not move. I turned the fly wheel by hand, heard a noise and then it just kept turning without moving the piston. Pulled it apart when I got home and found the connecting rod broken. The bush in the bottom hole was gone! I wasn't flogging it(did not even get into 2nd gear). I used the heat run in method. Any ideas what happened? Will buy a new rod and see what happens. Thanks.

RE: Broken connecting rod
It can happen sometimes, apollo is right, whether or not it happened WHILE you were priming, it is a result of too much fuel in the chamber when the engine performed a compression stroke. It happens sometimes, and was likely a minor defect with the conrod. Speak to HPI, they will probably replace it for you.

RE: Broken connecting rod
He said the bush went off the rod...If it's not pressed in there correctly it might come off which i suppose this is what happened!

RE: Broken connecting rod
talk to hpi they will take care of it, on those I would go pull start, you can tell if they are hydrolocked better because if they are you are not going to pull... the rotostart says ok and keeps going..

RE: Broken connecting rod
Yeah you probably didnt let the engine heat up enough or you kept it at a constant rpm. The sleeve has to expand during break-in for it to work properly. There is also less stress on the conrod while its hotter.
