Default Biggest motor for RS4 RTR3

Just picked up a used HPI RS4 RTR3 that came with the .15 and I was wondering what's the biggest motor you can put in one of these cars? Also...what was the top speed stock? Will my Sirio .23 fit? Thanks.

A huge motor won't mean anything if the power doesn't get to the ground

To be honest, anything more than a good .18 will cause issues. I run a modded 18tm in mine and had to make some heavy duty dogbones as the stock ones snap like twigs. Now the 2 speed is having issues holding up. The 2 little nubs on the gears that fit into the 1st gear adapter and also the 2nd gear housing shear off all the time. Usually on the 2nd gear when it shifts because of the crappy finger type tranny bangs so hard into 2nd. Also had to go to heavy duty diff gears. I swear this car is more work than fun[:'(]! Since I bought it, I bet I haven't ran 4 tanks in a row without having to repair something. Many people are happy with it though. I really wouldn't count on it holding together for long with anything other than a .18 in it. Just my dissapointing experience though.

Thanks. Yeah, maybe I'll look at the O.S. .18 or something like that. Maybe even a good 15. I want something that's going to improve top end also.

HAving a RS4 3 is the Bomb. They are easy and fast to fix, I have an os18tz and I dont have a problem, its fast on acceleration and fast on speed. 18 is the biggest size of engine you can use on this car, anything biger you will have to mod it to fit it. The 18tz is a good engine, 12 is faster but more expensive or the same. I never had any real bad issues with my car. I guess it all depends how you maintain it, meaning everything has to be almost perfect, wich is easy. For like an example, the spur and pinion gears... they cant be too close to each other(they will be too tight) or to far away(will cause to strip)

And for CBM Racing, your problem with the gear shifting too hard... you will have to adjust your tranny to shift at a higher RPM(the torque is lower) that way it wont shift too hard.

This car will run real good if you get it done right, and yes the diff gears will have to be changed to steel (aluminum will be eatened up, steel will last you 4 ever) same deal with the dogbones...get some MIP's

Oh I'm getting one too. I just needed an engine bad because the motor that came with the car when I got it was bad and I seen the XTM for $20 on ebay so I just got it just to run the car. So sometime b4 the year is out I'll have the TZ.

Anything bigger than an .18 will possibly cause problems to stock transmission parts.

I found out how to raise the back end up. Can the front be raised as well?

to tell you the truth if you raise the car alot it will badly affect the handling.

I kinda figured that...but until I figure out how to get the best out of this suspension and until I get the motor I really want, I need it raised slightly because it sits SO low to the ground. I have to find a super smooth surface to run.

Well it's an on road car...if you expect not to scratch your chasis at all I tell you that's NOT POSSIBLE! So common asphalt is your place...

Just put spacers on shocks. they should have come with the car, they fit on top of shock spring and slightly compress spring raising the ride height. For gears the evo (not sure on evo+) comes with 18/22 tooth clutchbell, and 43/47 spur gears. If you want crazy top end, get a team losi lst threaded clutchbell, and use a losi 25 tooth pinion and a hpi 21 tooth pinion. Then on the tranny use hpi 39 and 43 tooth spur gears. I use this combo when I want to just go FAST! This combined with the 18tz will give you some serious rip on the top end, and acceleration isn't to awfull bad. The 18tz with a decent pipe will allow you to gear really high like this, whereas most 12's don't have the torque to pull these kinds of ratios and just kind of bog down and overheat. Get the tz and some monster gearing and go like he11!

Hmmm...it's very subjective...the proper question would be "what's the best pipe for that engine". In that case it depends on what you need. You need power at high or low rpm range? You need to push more the torque or the engine rpm?
