Which Battery Pack For NTC3 RTR??
Hey guys I have an Associated NTC3 RTR and I want to buy some kind of rechargable battery pack for the reciever in the car. But I have a few questions about it and which one I should get. First, would putting a rechargable hump pack in the car require higher quality servos, or a new higher quality transmitter than what comes stock, or can I just use the stock radio with regular double As? Second, I need one that is not too pricey and obviously one that will fit in the little compartment. Finally, are there any battery packs that come with a charger that would suit my car, or would I have to buy a charger seperately? Thanks guys, I know I have a lot of questions but im fairly new to upgrading my rc cars so I dont know a lot about hop-ups, servos, battery packs, etc. Any links to ones you reccomend would be awesome!

For bashing, I am really happy with the Stickman hump pack SRP2500-MUG.
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...h-Normal-Style It will go forever on a single charge. You don't need to change anything, as far as your receiver goes any battery with the correct voltage works fine. Obviously the better the battery the longer you can go between charges.I have one of these in my rally modded NTC3 and had one in my buggy also. For my racing NTC3 I use a flat pack for the lower center of gravity. You won't see any receiver/battery charger combos because there are so many different receiver battery styles to fit so many cars and trucks. As far as a charger goes you cannot go wrong with this one: http://www.hobbypartz.com/thac6smbachw.html Thunder AC6 will charge everything from NICD and NIMH to Lipos for $45! I have been using one for a long time and it is awesome. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions ask away!
|

Thank you so much for the advice! Correct me if i'm wrong, but you're saying that all I need to do is buy that battery and just drop it in and I can still use regular double A's in my radio? Nice car btw. What's the thing you have on top of the little reciever hatch?

What's the thing you have on top of the little reciever hatch? Hey Charlie, Yup, the receiver and radio have separate power supplies - what you use in one makes no difference to the other. The thing on top of the hatch is called a failsafe. That one is a OFNAmicro failsafe. What it does is if the receiver battery goes low or it loses signal, it puts the throttle in the full brake position, basically to keep your car from going out of control. A lot of the 2.4 radios have them built in as a feature but that car used to have a basic AMradio so when Iupgraded radios and reveivers Ijust left it. Check out your radio/receiver manual to see if you have one built in . If not, they are cheap insurance! |

Alright sweet. Would you mind sending a link to the flat pack version you use in your racing TC3? Thanks!
Would this one work, or does it need to be 2500mAh? Also would it fit in the space? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXTYW4&P=7
|

RE: Which Battery Pack For NTC3 RTR??
Well I have another question already haha! Which one would you choose? The flat pack, or this one. Im worried about them fitting in the compartment.

RE: Which Battery Pack For NTC3 RTR??
Hey so I got my battery pack and theres one problem. The little adapter on the battery does not plug into the reciever adapter. Do I need an extension for it? What did you do for yours? Thanks!

RE: Which Battery Pack For NTC3 RTR??
What kind of receiver do you have? If the problem is the little "nub" on the battery lead you can just cut that off. Just make sure you put the battery in with the polarity correct. In other words make sure the black wire on the battery lead goes on the side of the receiver where the other black wires from the servos are. Usually the black wire goes to the outside of the receiver. If the battery has a two wire red plug you just need to cut it off and solder on the correct lead. Can you post pix because that would make it easier to solve your problem. No worries, whatever it is, it is an easy fix.

RE: Which Battery Pack For NTC3 RTR??
I just went back and looked at the flat pack you bought. It is a universal connector - what doesn't fit about it?

Here it is. So you saying cut off the part thats empy?

Actually let me explain the problem more. Ok so basically, the black and red wires with the red plastic in the upper left are what is supposed to be connected to the battery pack but it wont fit onto the black plastic one right below it which goes to the new pack. Follow me so far? Then, the red plug that is plugged into the "Batt." section on the reciever is actually the same wire as the red one that doesnt fit into the new pack. That very same wire again then leads to the on and off switch for the reciever. So Simplified, for it to be able to turn on, everything must stay plugged in where it is, and the red plastic plug in the upper left has to plug into the black one below it, but wont fit.. I hope you understood all that hah!

RE: Which Battery Pack For NTC3 RTR??
OK I see what the problem is. The problem is not the battery or the receiver but your on/off switch. The on/off switch that you have must have previously been hooked up to a "AA" battery holder. Your battery and receiver need a futaba or universal connector.
The switch that you have has a BEC connector. Those are the red ones that are kind of square shaped. There are a couple of ways you can solve this. One, is buy a servo extension like this one: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...XL287&P=ML Then, cut the extension a couple of inches from each end and cut off the red plugs and solder the plugs from the extension on to the appropriate male or female end of the switch. Then they will match at the battery end and the receiver end. That will allow you to use the switch you already have installed. Another option is to replace your on off switch with one that already has the correct futaba type connectors, then you won't have to do any soldering. You can even buy one with a charging jack that will allow you to charge your battery without having to disconnect it your battery. For example this one: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...XZTE2&P=ML You can see that switch would have the same connectors you need plus an extra one where you can plug in your charger. Either way will work you just have to get rid of the BEC connector. Does that make sense? |
RE: Which Battery Pack For NTC3 RTR??
I found an old thread where you can see the installed switch with the charge lead. If you look at the first picture you will see the leads from the battery match the leads for the switch - same futaba/universal connector - I wrapped them in tape for security on this rally car. You can also see the charging lead sticking out - that way I can charge without disconnecting the battery from the on/off switch. You get the idea.

RE: Which Battery Pack For NTC3 RTR??
Ok, so i'll probably end up putting the new on/off switch in because that seems easier. So all i'm going to have to do is plug the battery into one leave the other cord hanging for charging and then plug the last one into the Batt. section of the reciever? Thanks for the help!

P.S. How do you like the old Revo filter on the Picco? LOL - well I needed a filter and it fits! The throat on that Picco carb is like the size of a .18 or bigger! Gotta find something better like maybe one from a TMaxx. But it works for now LOL.
