Help finding tires!
 

Hello everyone, I'm looking for some scale 2.2 tires for my project, its going in the 1985 Camaro I'm building.

So, I need a set of wheels and tires that look as realistic as possible for a 1980's muscle car. These will be one of the only "non original parts" on the exterior of the car, so it is critical that it maintains the car's original appearance as much as possible. Here are some measurements of what I need:

Rim diameter: 2.2in or 55+mm.
Rim width: 1.2in +/- or anywhere from 27-31mm.

Tire diameter: 3.2/16in+ or 78-81mm
Tire Width: 1 1/4in or 32mm

All of these measurements except for the overall tire diameter can be off a few mm, I've been looking for a while and am all out of ideas. I'm hoping someone here knows of a tire set that could be appropriate, so far I've found that HPI Super RS4 slicks will fit, and some other buggy tires that would need to be modified. If anyone knows of any tires that are close to the criteria/ can be lightly modified to work, please post all suggestions! A radial tire would be killer, but this is the only radial that I've found, but its too tall by 10mm:(.

On tower, Traxxas Anaconda tires are a perfect fit, but they are listed as 2.2, yet their description says their inner diameter is 1.9in. I'm not a fan of the tread but I might settle for them if nothing else is found.

HPI makes drifting tires that are the exact same as many of today's high performance tires, Yokohama, Nitto, Falken, Toyo. Those would look fine I would think and it's something that someone would possibly put on an 80's Camaro today if they had one. I don't know if they will make the size you need or not though.:eek:

Yes we can, but please let us focus on the tire situation as it will look like crap with some studded ones:(, I've covered HPI- their one or two of their Super Nitro slicks fit, and they SRS4 Rally tire fits... I need more options[&o]. Pics-

I need the tires/rims so I can mock up the proper axle width that I need, will have a solid axle and 4-stroke under the hood... 1/8 Scale 1985 Iroc Z, and I just bought one NIB kit and a used on for backups:)... Back to tires!:D

My 4 Tec tires are as follows

Rubbers 66mm tall
26mm wide

Rims 55mm tall
26mm wide

Thanks a lot for measuring Mike! Yeah all the 1/10 touring car size tires are usually 60-70mm tall:(. I need to keep on searching, I don't want to be forced to use the Anacondas or slicks, they will look like crap on this car[&o].

Thanks, the body work is probably one of the most time consuming parts for me. I had to cut the doors/ fake lights and other items off with a hobby knife. Scoring plastic with a knife for a few hours at a time isn't any fun, its not even close to being anywhere even of a quarter done, I'll tell you when I finish it:). Please, keep any suggestions coming! Look at the first post please.

Are you going to make a build thread for this project? Now that would be cool. I know this thread is about finding tires, but you can't expect anyone not to ask about such an awesome project now that we know about it.:D

Meh, my progress is going pretty slowly now, so I wouldn't want to bore anyone... Well anyways I didn't bank too much hope in getting suggestions for this is RCU, but luckily through friggin hours of research I have found a set that fits to the T[8D].

From Tower, I saw these tires almost a month ago and assumed that they'd be too small, but imagine my surprise when I checked and they fit perfectly with the exception of the tires having to be stretched a tiny bit to fit a 2.2 rim.

Tires: Off-road compound 1.15" (29mm)wide, 3.09" (79mm) outside dia.
Wheels: Plastic Orange colored 1" (25.4mm) wide, 2" (51mm) diameter

Now I need to score these and some nice aluminum rims, and I can get myself an axle setup when I get my proper measurements[8D],

You should round off the edge of the tread on those tires so they seem more suited for on-road. I think you should make a build thread.

Yep, that was the plan HJJFFFAA:). We'll see, I want to get the rear end/tires-wheels/tranny for the car, as well as the engine before doing anything. I don't want to get ahead of myself claiming I'll do something and come up short later on, I've got an awesome guy here on RCU who stepped up for me and will machine a chassis and donate some aluminum for this car. Thats why I'm making it a priority to really get this car rolling through the holidays, so I can give him some good dimensions for the chassis when I get most of the parts in. When that happens, I'll post up the more significant progress, I just don't want to hype anything up and let people down if something takes a turn for the worst[8D].
