I started this thread so I could help anyone that has a Mekamon and let the batteries go dead or, anyone wanting to purchase one of these new.
These are around 4 years old now. So any 'New" Mekamons will more than likely come with a dead LiPo battery due to just sitting without being charged.
Mine came with the battery DOA. It read less than 1v. The battery packs are proprietary and are no longer available, to the best of my knowledge. Also, they are sealed.
I found a way to 'Revive' the battery pack without having to open the pack itself. I figured that, since the battery pack is brand new, that there should be a way to 'Revive' the battery.
So I got to thinking and went searching for an answer. I couldn't find but one pertaining to the Mekamon. There is a guy on youtube that shows how he solved his dilemma.
. I figured that not too many people own a 3D printer. So, I kept searching. I found no other place that either had new stock or showed how to repair the battery. Do this at your own risk. I am just telling you what I did.
What I did to revive the battery was to take another battery of comparable power, Voltage/Amperage. In my case, I used a 12v 7Ah lead acid battery. A lot on the higher side of the amperage.
Knowing that there is an explosion hazard, I connected the wires to the battery pack first, at different lengths, to avoid a short across the wires. I then put it in an explosion bag designed for LiPo batteries. I then clipped the negative (black) wire to the negative terminal of the battery. I held the positive (Red) wire to the positive terminal of the battery for 10 seconds. I checked the voltage in the battery. It had come up to about 1.2v. So I touched it again for 10 more seconds. This time it came up to around 3v.
I figured that the low threshold of a LiPo was around 3.2v, so I connected it to the charger. Low and behold the charge indicator (LED) came on (RED) to show it was charging. About 1 hour later the charge indicator (LED) turned green, showing it was fully charged. I put it in the Mekamon and was overjoyed when it powered right up.
Disclaimer: Just because this worked for me, doesn't mean it will wok for you. Also, because of the explosion hazard, do this at your own risk!
Personally, I have never had a battery or battery pack explode.
I sure hope this message gets to people that own one of these and helps them get it working again. Be safe! Have a great day!
