Default AUVSI show?

Has anyone else been to (or is going to) the AUVSI (Unmanned systems, North America 2008) show?

Not this year, but I do have a friend presenting a paper.

Default RE: AUVSI show?

Some of the interesting things were a gyro-copter (basically a long vertical stick with 2 counter-rotating blades on the same axis), or 2-blade copters with 2 main blades, not on the same shaft, counter-rotational so they do not hit each other. I'll post some pics if anyone wants. I saw a lot of retrofitted Traxxas E-maxxes (even some with the original stock motor hardware) and lots of Align T-rex helis with autonomous or semi-autonomous countrols (waypoint-driven or joystick), lots of large-scale electric aircraft; the rest was pretty boring, guns, weapon-systems, etc. I talked to a number of people whose businesses were originally about doing autonomous robots for ordinary people like farmers, self-driving vehicles and such, police, law-enforcement, security, remoted piloted hazardous work like bomb squads, or 'helper' robots for blind / handicapped people etc. but they said after 9/11 their business model completely changed... not a lot there that was really in the price range for civilian or hobby use anymore. Local bomb squads and things like that can't afford to spend more than $25K on a robot.
