Beginner Looking to build first robot

I am a beginner at these kinds of things but am a fast learner when it comes to mechanics, but i want to build a Utility/tank robot. I want to base it off of the Talon Naval EOD Bot Design as far as the look not the arm or cameras or anything. i just want it to be about that size and shape, doesnt have to have the cameras and ballistic armor and all the fancy stuff. I am looking for a mentor to help me through this project. And after words, as a reward i might let you have this bot, since i will know how to make my own.

If anyone can help, it would be greatly appriciated, please contact me through here or you can email me at [email protected]http://w...301101_q75.jpg

Seems VERY ambitious but willpower will conquer all.

Please keep us updated as to your progress... I'm a beginner with robotics too but would love to see how this project goes.

What is your budget?

I could build that same robot for around $2000 using mostly used parts, and a lot of time.

The best thing to do would be to grab the spec of it and see if you can get the parts together.

Used electric wheelchair motors, snow blower tracks and a fabricated metal chassis alone are going to run you $500.

The you need to add electronics, 20+ amp motor controller, SLA or lipo batteries up to 24v, fuses, breakers, power supplies.

At least an 8 channel Tx/Rx or a laptop and/or wireless modem like an XBee.

The the arm and gripper....

You're in for a long ride. I'd start smaller.

I built this thing for around $1200 as my first large robot - http://youtu.be/kITSnt1fPd4
