RC4WD Trail Stomper
I was extremely hesitant on getting the RC4WD Trail Stomper RTR, but I'm very happy with it after some adjustments and tuning issues out of box. Here's the review:
The good:
Solid metal chassis
Ball bearings through out
Locked diffs
Outcry esc, not Lipo ready unfortunately
2.4ghz 3ch tx/rx
Steel 3 piece 1.55 bead locks
Very soft compound 1.55 Mud Slingers
Extremely thick clear lexan Toyota body, it comes with 2
Great 90mm inner spring scale shocks
Sharp looking leaf springs and shackles
Good axles.
The bad:
45t sealed can Rc4wd motor
The body posts aren't adjustable
Drag brake is factory set to 100%, not programmable
The decals are a bit sloppy
The gears in the axles and trans are not greased out of box
The ugly:
The front body post will need some mod to make it sit level, it's lower than the rear
The suspension is extremely stiff, no articulation out of the box
The plastic driveshafts are cheap and useless.
Summary:
Right out of the box I noticed issues with the suspension and body posts. For the body posts I added some longer screws and spacers to correct the height. For the suspension I removed the helper leaf springs, leaving the main spring mounted, and also removed the springs from inside the shocks. The driveshafts broke on the first run so I switched them to the Axial WB8's found on all Wraith's and SCX10's, they work perfectly. I'm very impressed with this trail truck. After tuning the suspension, lubricating all the gears, and swapping the 45t motor with an Axial 27t, this truck is an overall great truck. I also added a Wraith battery box and welded a stinger bumper to the front.
Final recommendation:
If your looking for an awesome rig right out of the box, this truck isn't for you. I would recommend getting an SCX10 if you're looking for plug n' play. Now if you don't mind a few modifications and a few hours spent going over things then heck yeah, get this truck, you won't be disappointed.
Future plans:
I have ordered the RC4WD super soft red leaf springs, rc4wd tough armor front bumper, and a winch. I will post updates as soon as they arrive.
